Jeans, there is nothing more fun than going out and dropping some cash on new jeans. There are so many great brands, and the look is so versatile. If you're a ya you can dress them up and look smart, or if you're poor you can still look decent in a good cut. And their dirty secret is that you can wear them 2 days in a row.
What are your favourite brands of jeans, and how much do you normally spend on a new pair of jeans?

Latest favorite is Lee Carpenter jeans. 2 days? Try 4 for me, but not in a row, people would talk.

Rocking the dark blue Express Men's jeans. No stupid bleaching or wrinkles. 20 bucks off means 40 ish bucks.
Not too bad...for jeans I'm embarassed to own. Hey, they can't ALL be 501's, can they?

what cuts do you guys wear? I usually stick with straight leg, but when I am feeling a little more flamboyant than usual I will wear flares.

Straight Leg, and just let me say:
The Gap sucks ass. Their jeans are all bleached and creased.
And to think I used to buy my 501's in that darn place.

Man, I hate jeans now, Dickies are my new jeans. Straight leg, loose fit, double knee, stain release, permanent crease. Will last forever and you really never have to wash them (I do sometimes ). Comes in a bunch of colors as well. Btw these are not hard as a rock like some other work pants.

I used to hate jeans partly... cause none fit Being a size 48 in high school sucked. That said, eventually I lost some weight got a pair of size 46s and they fit great and I loved em, then I got a pair of 44... the story goes on till the other day I was in the Bay and tried on a pair of Tommy 38s... I felt special
I can't wait for the day I'm down to a 36... after that all jean stores will tremble at my buying power!

Yeah, especially when they're something like 150 - 180 € these days...

Right now probably Energie and Diesel.
Pepe, Replay and Hugo are also pretty decent. Levis never really seem to fit.
I usually wait a couple of months from the release date to get a marked down pair for around 80 - 100 €. Which is still about twice as much as I paid for 10 years ago.

For the record I almost don't like the fact that I wear Tommy... gives me flash backs to the jocks in high school. But they're GREAT jeans, and they fit like a glove that's groping my butt...

501s.
Question. I haven't bought a pair of 501s for ages (I tend to bulk buy). Lately I've noticed these new ads about them being "twisted" (or something). Have they actually changed the cut or is this just marketing hype tagged onto the same, original cut?

The good old Joop before Wolfgang sold the business had the best fit on this world (for my legs and a..). I also have a couple of Armani and Boss.
Levis 501 are alright for the rough times of the life (hiking in the alps).
How long? That depends. The blue and dark ones... I won't tell you. The others 2 days if the weather is bad and they get dirty, 4 days otherwise.
All the other trousers I ever tried, especially these business things that need a jacket and a tie, are really awful and a waste of money (ever tried pleat-front trousers ).

I went through my phase o' that, but lately the Diesel cuts have made me sad so I mostly moved on.
SEVEN still has some curb appeal since people will actually stop me on the street and ask what they are, but there's less of that now that they're more prevalent.
Adriano Goldschmidt makes some great jeans, and they're almost a a carbon-copy of my all time fave fitting FreshType's that arent available any longer.
Rock and Republic is where its really at presently. Try em, you'll like em. Great fit, killer washes, quality construct.
While yer out pick up the new line from the guy that started Paper, Denim & Cloth, it's called Earnest Sewn. Great classic look, incredibly well made.
The hottest brand on the market right now is True Religion. I cant really wear em tho, the cut is a little too square and the damn pockets are too big, make it look like you've NO ass if you're anything under a 36 waist. Really hot tho, incredible detailing.
I'm a bit of a denim whore, but what better way to waste thousands on? Other than Macs, of course.

rock and republic...still cant get a decent pair in my size, i love the washes and cuts though
true religion seem to be to baggy and i hate those cargo back pockets, id rather have a pair of evisu's
i only wear 1 cut from diesel that ive always warm form them - rabox
and sevens regular cut or the slim bootleg.

Considering you are too cheap to pony up $79.00 for iLife, I'd say you were a bit off when it comes to money and spending.
Jeans last a very long time, and are well worth the investment as a clothing vehicle.

*whew* good, because I only pay between $30-$40 for my 501s. Nice having a Levi's outlet nearby.
Would hate to think I'm spending a "buttload" on jeans.

What he said.
If you find a pair that look really good on you, and you're going to wear that pair to death, then it is worth spending a lot of money on them.
And believe it or not, people will be able to tell right away if your jeans are nice or cheap, so if you're in a situation where presentation is important (campus, courtship, casual workplace, night out) then it is well worth paying a bomb.

If you're in a situation where presentation is that important, you should probably not be wearing jeans.

So presentation is not important in my examples? Courtship, campus, a casual workplace, going out to a bar or club, all require smart but casual attire, which means jeans. You can wear wool trousers or chinos if you want but it won't look as good.

Only the snooty spoiled kids care about what brand of clothes you wear, so I really don't care to be friends with them in the first place. Same with dating. Girls who care about brands are the same ones I'd like to avoid. Workplace? You can wear jeans at work? Woah!
