Yah, I was in there today, turns out a friend from high school is now the manager in charge of hiring people... which is scary since he's younger than I am... anyway, so he said to apply online and then he can hire me no problem. Though he said to make sure to lie in the forum online otherwise it wouldn't let him hire me which I laughed at. But I figure since he'd be my boss and what not, it's OK.
But yah, so... soon I'll be Kaki clad and wearing a bright blue polo shirt... yey... oh well he was like, "Yah we could use a Mac specialist" I smiled. It'll be good though, we got along well in high school and so I think this'll work out well.

Can't be that much younger if you were friends in high school…

He's a year younger than I am. But it'd be weird having him as my boss. That said he knows I know tons about computers and that I have people skills so I'd be a great person to have in the store... not to mention when it isn't busy I'd be fun to chat with.

He's not really your boss if he's the hiring manager. Just an HR monkey.

Please, PLEASE do two things. First, don't wear the dorkiest beard-oid you can! You wouldn't believe the freak show I see in one BestBuy here in San Antonio! It's like they're running a "I can out dork your beard" contest! Seriously, put on as professional appearance as you can-YOU will get the questions (and sales) from the people with real money.
Second, if you don't have a clue, admit it. I had a young man (not that young!) tell me flat out that the iPod on his display would NOT work with a Mac, because it was a PC iPod. He really wanted me to believe it! I think he was going to tell me that the 20GB iPods were for PCs and the 60s were for Macs, but that's beside the point.
Don't make us ALL come and bother you at work!

This cannot be stressed enough.
I find that customers MUCH appreciate when you don't try to bullsh¡t your way into a sale.
"I'm sorry - I'm more the audio guy, I really can't answer on details about color laser printers. But I can help you find information on the web..." if the printer specialist isn't around for the asking.
If you're not sure, say so. If you don't know, say so.
Competence is as much about knowing your limits as about knowing your stuff.

Please all I ask is you uphold all the Best Buy Policies;
1. Never replace a defective item with a new one, keep it for repair for 3-4 weeks and ignore the customer when they ask about it.
2. Be as rude as possible and continue to know nothing about where anything else is in the store and practice pointing and repeat the following' um like I think it's over there but I'm not sure...lemme ask someone else they might know'
3. Walk around the store aimlessly and quickly turn down an aisle when a customer approches.
4. When you get that nice $400 lcd monitor from the top shelf and drop it 10 feet to the ground...make sure you say 'woah..that didn't sound good' followed by 'hmm that was the last one we had in stock...But we may have another one at our other store 50 miles from here'. Or we can repair it!? (see # 1)
5. And always ALWAYS remember to keep that blue shirt untucked, stained with some food item from 3 day before and never EVER under any circumstances wash your hair.
Welcome to Best Buy

BEST BUY IS THE SUCKIEST PLACE. You'll lean. If you aren't a dick, then you'll go nowhere in the company, and you'll want to leave.

haha, not to worry boys I imagine I will be by far the most knowledgeable employee they have... and I will make sure to not lie to customers, I'd sooner quit. As well... Mac sales shall go through the roof
And besides... like I wouldn't know anything about a product. Best buy doesn't even sell KVM switches... I think unless they start asking about windows software I'll be fine
Oh, and of course, like I would look unkempt... that's just preposterous.

I know a 19 year old who made MANAGER at blockbuster after working there for 8 months. They must not have many responsibilities.

Manager at 19 is nothing. It seems that if you make it more than a month or two at Taco Bell or McDonalds you are instantly promoted to "Manager". And of course you will be getting the high paying manager wage of $6.75/hour.
About BestBuy sucking... well, i don't know about that, but I don't shop there because their prices are always so much higher than other places (except the CDs).

Help customers find the computer that best suits their needs, not the flavor of the week that you guys are pushing. Though I suspect you won't be around long if you do that.
I enjoy Best Buy because it's the only place locally(sadly) to check out new tech toys but at the same time it drives me insane and I only regain that sanity by helping people go and purchase the item they need as opposed to being sold on something.
I went to my local Best Buy and looked at the iPods with a friend. I then asked if they had the Mac Mini yet, and he said no they didn't. I literally walked five feet and on display was a fully functional Mac Mini.

Pffff, what does the title manager even denote these days ? Nothing.
Everyone is a manager. The janitor of a McDonalds is now the housekeeping manager. Whatever.

I like the Best Buy here in Knoxville, good staff, easy returns, and pleasant service. No, I wouldn't buy any electronics or computer stuff there, I'm not into "retail consumer" electronics and I get my computer equip online, but I do buy DVDs and music there. I've been to a lot worse places... *cough*Fry's*cough*.

Fry's is like a giant Best Buy / Sams Club...Fry's sucks as well. Don't bother asking any Fry's staff any serious questions. I was going to buy a camera there once, and they put me through such BS about a check, that by the time they gave me aproval to buy the camera, I was pissed off, tore my own check up in front of the manager, and tossed it down at her feet. I told her I'd never shop at a fry's ever again, and I'll be happy to pass that along to every one I meet. Anywhere. Have a nice day.
It's like they get the rejects from Best Buy...
