www.intelinsideapple.com

Hi there,

As a longtime Apple user/fan and very recent web publisher (as a hobby) I have recently started www.intelinsideapple.com as a launchpoint for information pertaining to the transition from PowerPC to Intel Chips. The site is still very basic and in it's early stages but I'd appreciate any comments on the idea, layout, etc. as well as any suggestions for news/rumor links other information you think should be on the site.

This is meant more as a website for the average person - it is not meant as an extremely technical site.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Chris

Perhaps one problem is scope: why would the average lay person want to keep continually up to date about the PowerPC to Intel switch? Another is continuing news... exactly what developments do you expect to occur before the release of these new Macs? There's also nothing there; you posted the equivalent of a forum post. Anyone who will be able to find your site either through researching through Google or reading the forums probably knows that much already. And having the banners on the left is also excessively distracting. And, as far as distracting goes, at points there are more banners than content, which isn't a good thing. It also just seems to me that someone could set up an RSS feed that finds anything with "intel and mac" and you'd have almost the same thing (and a similar look, if I may say so).

I'm not trying to put you down, but perhaps I'd look at another approach, rather than just the news repository site, of which there are many. I'm reminded by that one blog which chronicles all of the applications that have "made the switch" and all the applicable stories. I found that interesting, personally, and it offers a continual source of content (is it still up, btw, and does anyone have the link?).

Damn... it looks like the Intarweb ate my last post, so I'll have to make this one shorter...

Intel has a history of suing people who try to do anything that mimics the slogan "Intel Inside", even if it has nothign to do with computers. I was able to find this summary from a few years back. I'm not sure how this ended up, although I doubt Intel has softened their stance:

My advice to you would be to register a different domain name that doesn't have the "inside" in it. If you don't, you will most likely get sued, and have to make a choice between shutting the site down or paying costly legal bills. In addition, the domain name complaint arbitrarion process is so tilted toward trademark holders that once you open up the site, it is 99% likely that the domain would just be given to Intel, anyway. It sucks, but that's life on the Information Superhighway these days...

Thanks for the heads up re: the Intel lawsuits. I had also registered www.intelinsidethemac.com. I'll wait and see what happens. In the meantime, I'll add a disclaimer to the site stating that the site is in no way affiliated with Intel, etc.
