Very often, someone will try to send a fax over our voice line by mistake.

The phone rings, we pick it up, and we hear the characteristic beep-beep-beep of an attempted fax. Inevitably, the person either gives up or calls us to complain that they couldn't send their fax in. Frustrating.

Is there any way to have a device that detects these attempts at faxing and redirects those calls to our dedicated fax line?

You mean a box that would take the fax call, receive it, then dial a fax number and fax it to that number ?

I have enver heard of such a thing. If you get so many faxes on that telephone, get a fax on tht line in addition to the telephone.

More like detect a beep-beep-beep from a fax and shift that signal to the dedicated fax line. I don't think that's the same thing.

Yes, something like that exists. Here is a link to the home grade products:

You can even get rid of your second line, and save some money each month,

We use a commercial grade switch here at my office, and it works pretty good.

It works by listening to the incoming call for 2 or 3 seconds to see if it's a fax or voice call, and then it rings the appropriate device. For incoming voice callers, you can't even tell the device is in use. The line rings like normal until you answer. Pretty spiffy.

I don't see anything there that would help him. All the products help to GET RID of a dedicated fax line.

He has and wants to keep a dedicated fax line, but also wants faxes coming in on the dedicated phone line to be switched over. Or did I get something wrong here ?

Yes. That is exactly the funtion we use our switch for. It automatically redirects faxes that come in on the wrong line.
