Wow... my head hurts, been editing video for going on... holy frick I've been at this since just after 10 with very small breaks... and it's freaking 5 am... and I'm not done for the night. Anyway, I was just waiting for a render to end (I can't imagine how pros used to work with 1Ghz systems!) and I flicked on the TV, stopped by Much Music since right now the only thing on is that, bowflex adds and apparently I can have great abs if I wear this lil belt that sends electric... anyway.
So I'm watching Much and there's this video on, Dirty Little Secret by The All American Rejects, it's a good song (finally something in the secular market that I don't mind) I've thought of buying it on iTunes, but beyond the song which isn't amazing or anything, the idea behind the music video was amazing, they had all these little cards people would hold up that showed their, "dirty little secrets" and some of them were down right funny while others were super serious. One of them said something about not knowing if her fiancee was the right one, another said they were afraid of naked women, another said they didn't feel close to God or something like that, and they just went on and on, some went up and down too fast... if I could buy the video on iTunes I think I might... it was really impressive.
Encase this topic isn't about enough all ready... how people who professionally edit video for a living do it... I don't know. I mean I imagine I'll still take on this VBS footage editor job next year too. but dang if this is not a lot of work! And it's kinda tedious a lot of the time. Oh well...
By the way, is Final Cut Express's print to video footage normally spotty? Cause I couldn't get it to work with the camcorder. And the other guy that I'm working with on this (he shoots I edit) wants to put the footage back on the camera after it's been edited and what not and then take it home and make a DVD of it so that we can switch between that and the PPT stuff that'll be going on on Sunday (7 short videos through out the service.) Personally I'd sooner set it up with Playlist player or iTunes on my laptop but I'm not going to sweat it...
Yawn... I'm tired... oh well maybe I'll get to sleep by six...

If you're going to be doing video editing, get used to long hours and late late night. My summer job was doing videography work for a summer camp in California. In the first 2 weeks, I pulled 3 all-nighters and stayed up for 46 hours straight at one point. This was just to finish up the videos so we could show them to the campers once they got here...
Once camp started, I was making a weekly "rememberance" video for the kids, which was usually between 17 and 20 minutes long. I would capture my footage throughout the week, then edit on Thursday night (the video had to be done by Saturday). I always stayed up through the night on Thursday and continued to work on it through Friday -- getting the final shots that I needed, putting finishing touches on it, copying 100+ DVDs and printing labels on all of them. I would usually get completely finished with everything early Saturday morning (3am or so).
I'm on my last week, and have yet another weekly video to work on all of tonight, plus 3 staff DVDs to finish that I've been working on all week long. It does get extremely tedious, especially if you're doing a video that you don't particularly enjoy and can't have a lot of creative fun with.
Oh, and I have not been able to print to any of my camcorders (Canon GL2, 1 JVC and 1 Panasonic) from Final Cut Pro all summer.

OUCH, I think I'd kill myself
Seriously more than one week doing this and I'd be fried. That said, I'm ALMOST done, and it's only Thursday night. That said they want to be able to stick it on a DVD just for the service to run off a DVD player with the projector... I'm kinda like... why don't we run it straight from my laptop... or Steve's laptop... that way we don't have to wait for disks to burn and all that crap?
I realized tonight that I have IMO waaaay better footage than last year. Last year was a kinda pirates of the Caribbean rip off, this year we're ripping off Extreme Makeover Home Edition (essentially ever year we take a theme from something that's been popular... I'm hoping next year is not Napolean Dynamite ) But yah, This year I've got soo much footage of the kids where as last year it was largely staged acting... so I think I'm actually putting in a lot more time and effort than they did last year...
That said I have a script to follow that in some ways gets frustrating. Just because there's some times where it doesn't seem like the voice overs were that well thought out as far as what footage they'd be going with. But I really shouldn't complain all that much it's pretty good. Next year I'm kind of hoping for a bit more creative control... but I've kind of already taken a few liberties... like putting in a super kick butt sound track which personally I think is awesome... no idea if everyone else will think that haha...
There's five days, I'm all finished days One through Four, and Day five just needs a few shots and then it's all done. Though I still have to do an intro and the outro... the outro is about half done, and the intro is mostly done.

By the way I should mention it's 7:13am now... I haven't been to sleep today I actually have a meeting with two of our pastors to discuss my internship... I hope I don't fall asleep in the meeting hahaha... wow my eyes are getting wonky... crap... oh well they'll understand... I still don't get how the heck they think meetings at 7:30am are good ideas... haha... well the video is I'd say 95% done. There's just a few things I need to work out with the lady who runs the VBS... and hopefully things will actually make sense.

Nice work. Are you going to post a version online someplace? It'd be sweet to take a look at what you've been working on
I haven't slept in the last 2 days either, and probably won't at all tonight. My flight leaves at noon tomorrow, so I've got lots of packing and finishing up to do around here (none of my videos are done completely yet, either... haha). The flight should be a good time to crash, and I'm sure I'll be a zombie for another 3 or 4 days when I get home.
