Hi.

Im at my dads house at the moment and he has got broadband. He hasnt got MSN messanger so I tried to get to my hotmail. Wont work. Page blank. So, then i try e-messanger. nope, signing-in doesnt do anything. Go to www.wbmsn.net , doesnt do anything. Go to yahoo. Buttons dont work!! This IE is really ****!

****! OS 9 can do it! Why cant XP?

If microsoft has gone crazy, this is problem.
If this is my dads computer, why is it doing this!

He ran a virus checker the other day and found 500 virus. Even when he had the firewall and a million other virus things on.

Microsoft have really gotta improve.

And....MSN, Hotmail and so on are MICROSOFT properties, so they should work fine with IE. Have you bothered to see if Dad has any of the updates that make his computer not only safer but more compatible? IE6 has a LOT of updates, and XP should have Service Pack 2 installed.

It sounds very much like your Dad's computer needs serious disinfecting. If he installed all the virus stuff AFTER he got infected, it might not be able to do anything at all. The problem with most Windows computers isn't as much that Microsoft is kind of feeble, it's at least 50% that users don't do the relatively few things needed to protect themselves from the bad guys BEFORE THEY EVER GO ONLINE. Sorry, but that's the naked truth.

By the way, on my PC (running up to date XP), I can get to that site with BOTH IE and Firefox.

Have him (your dad) do a clean install of the OS after backing up his critical information.

Before reloading anything, check each item for viruses.
Do all critical updates.

Done.

Download AdAware, Spybot and Spyware Blaster. Boot into Safe Mode (Press F8 before Windows starts, right after the BIOS screen.), run these programs. Get an antivirus program. Run it in Safe Mode, too. Hopefully that'll help.

Update, update, update. It is Windows.

First you criticize the guy for posting in a mac forum and made a dumb remark then you come back and give some advice.

Why didn't you do that first?

It was obvious he was a mac user in his father's peecee hell.

Give your Dad a large sum of cash and help him take his computer to a shop that will do what needs doing. It's hosed up badly, YOU DIDN'T DO IT (this time), and he's going to be without a working computer in about 35 seconds if the thing isn't taken care of.

Then appologize (again) for messing up the other computer and vow never to mess with something you don't really understand ever again.

Hmm, it seems spell check is also not working on your "dads" computer.

This is a computer-generated message and needs no signature.

Dude, you ok? You have been rather harsh in some of your posts lately.

I mean, we argue all the time, but you seem a bit more edgy than normal.

Hope all is well.

How would this be defined? Most threads involve arguing, and many involve mud slinging.
