Police look into alleged taped beating
Mob incident on Web may be connected to Oakland sideshows
FROM STAFF REPORTS
Inside Bay Area
OAKLAND — Oakland Police have no information on an alleged video-taped beating of a woman labeled a "snitch" being circulated over the internet by radio talk show host and Web maven Matt Drudge.
The narrated video, taken by a cheering bystander in what police said appears to be a "sideshow" atmosphere, shows a young woman being pulled out of a car by a crowd of people.
She is then punched, kicked and stomped while she is on the ground.
Oakland Police Sgt. David Elzey said officers have seen the video but do not know when the attack happened or if it actually happened in Oakland.
"There are several unanswered questions, and it is hard to follow up on," Elzey said. There have been no recent reports of a severe beating, he said.
"It's kind of sickening that someone would actually tape this beating and put it on the Internet," he added.
Police have received several calls about the video and are investigating its origins.

Did the US invade Iraq because they were apparently doing such similar horrible things over there and that was justification to go to war?
BTW I have seen the video and it is disgusting.

A woman is being videotaped for being a snitch... it was on Drudge. What is the political angle here?

That video made me SO mad!
It's stuff like this that makes me drift toward the right-wing again, at least emotionally. Though I know it's wrong and in the end more damaging, in the moment it would be so satisfying to see some shock troops swoop in and take all those ******* gangbangers to some gulag, permanently.

You think it would be wrong and more damaging to lock up criminals??
It is wrong and in the end more damaging to grant criminals freedom when they have no respect for others.

I am sometimes ruled by my eye-for-an-eye thinking... In this case I think it is appropriate for all involved, even the videotaper.
Solitary confinement for 2 weeks.
Sleep Deprivation.
Water and vitamins, some basic meals. Very basic.
That's just for starters.

How is that eye-for-an-eye? Wouldn't eye-for-an-eye punishment for those people be to be beaten by a mob?

I'd have them beaten by the police. Videotaped. Published to the internet.
etc. etc. etc.
I'm sure some cops would volunteer for this.

Perhaps my comment was unclear. Of course locking up criminals is appropriate, after they've been convicted in a court of law during a fair trial at which they were represented by counsel (who defended their constitutional rights) and a jury of their peers decided they were guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. In addition, people don't just get that way for no reason -- you need to think about and try to solve the social conditions that bring people to that state. That's what I *think* is the appropriate response.
What I *felt* was more along the lines of swift, brutal beatings at the hands of some class-A jackbooted thugs, right there on the spot, followed by indefinite imprisonment in an unlit prison cell at Guantanamo Bay. Or, maybe just summary execution at the scene.
Oh, and get off the boards, Cash.

It would help if society stopped making criminals into role models. We need to stop caring so much for people who have exhibited that they can't co-exist with others.

If I were to sleep with random women daily, would you sympathize if my wife found out and divorced me?
If I were to shoot up a little heroin daily would you sympathize with me if I overdosed?
You lie down with dogs your bound to get fleas you know…
Apparently this piece of human debris had surrounded herself with other very dangerous pieces of human debris and allegedly betrayed them. Should we be surprised or shocked that something like this happened? Did she deserve it? No, I don't think so, but I'm having a hard time feeling too sympathetic.
Of course this is my knee-jerk reaction based on very little information so flame me if you must.

Same reaction I had to the video. Granted we don't know enough about this situation but we can't be too surprised she got gang-beat for snitching on the people she hangs around.

Out of 5000 posts, how many do you think are about Ca$h?
Not many. It just seems that way lately because of his numerous posts just begging to be responded to. It's more of a sport, well not even that much of a sport, because he's just an angry person with problems. I don't wish him any ill.
Understand this though. During his last 30 posts he has:
Shown himself to be a person that will:
1. Flip off anyone in authority. Metermaide
2. Flip off anyone driving an SUV
2a. Insulted a woman who drove an SUV as a "Blonde Bimbo"
2b. Was verbally abusive to another person next to him in an SUV smoking, butt toss..
3. Park illegally because it's what he thinks is ok, and not illegal therefore
4. Smokes Pot but hates smokers
5. Ratted out some stranger for selling one T-shirt online of a band he likes...
6. Constantly posts threads about SUVs and how the people that drive them, sort of like a modern day "Don Quixote" but not nearly as cool.
7. He's constantly banned from here, when all he has to do is calmly explain himself and present his arguments without being so harsh.
He's got some issues, and honestly I have to agree with some of them, but the world is not going to end if someone drives an SUV, smokes a cigarette and tosses it out the window of his car / suv, what have you.
I did agree that an ashtray by doorways, etc. would be great for people who would otherwise toss them in a flower bed or somewhere else. I did not know that the filter inside a cigarette is more plastic and not cotton...
He makes it very difficult to even consider agreeing with him... And then you have the personal attack and threats about death. Just. Not. Cool. I can't get past that.

A lot of people have died though, at least here in California. In late 2003, an eyewitness saw someone toss a cigarette out a window, the brush was so dry around here that it only took a few hours to consume $25 million worth of property, people died.

Kind of messed up. I have no idea if the girl in the video had been convicted by her peers of being a snitch or not, but I'm going to assume that it was just "common knowledge".
From the looks of it, she definitely had reason to fear for her life. It would have been interesting to see the reaction if the girl had produced a large caliber firearm and started evacuating skulls. Hey, anything goes, right?

Just a thought, but I'm guessing that the gang people would have pulled out their nines and let her have it.
You know something, though? I think I would have done it anyway, with the full knowledge that I'd be gunned down. At least I'd take a few with me.
