K, this might not be new news to some of you, but I found this really really handy. You know those websites that disable right click on pictures? You can't save them, send the link to someone, etc... it's very annoying... or if you want to open something up in a new tab, window, save to disk, whatever. I hate places that disable right click. Anyway, here's a freakin' awesome solution:

http://javascript.about.com/library/blright.htm

Just make a bookmark with the link that's mentioned in that link, or more specifically, make a bookmark that's address is:

javascript:void(document.onmousedown=null);void(do cument.onclick=null);void(document.oncontextmenu=n ull)

Then just add it to your bookmark bar. If you ever come across a site you can't right click, just click the bookmark button (I titled mine "enable right-click") and POOF! Right click works! Super handy!

Anyway, hope you like it. It's much more convenient than going to 'view source' and scanning the HTML.

well, if surfers would stop stealing other's online content, a 'fix' wouldn't be needed in the first place.

Since those 'no right click' scripts rely on a JavaScript event, the easy way around this is to disable JavaScript altogether.

Those "no right click" scripts are just like <BLINK> and dancing mail icons. They are for GeoCities users and their equals.

Right click at the following site: http://www.formula1.com/

Stupid, because you can't open in new tab with the context menu there (have to use command-click). Don't ask me why they did it. Makes no sense whatsoever as far as I can tell.

When you said surfing I thought you meant real water surfing; maybe some advise on how to fight sharks or something

Well, it's not so much for stealing, but if you want to send someone a link to a page or a specific picture, or post an image at a forum, you find sites that occasionally do this. It's annoying. But yeah, this work around rocks.

Thanks Rob.
I think. I'll maybe retract that if I ever get a two-button mouse and the script doesn't work.

it's usually because they have some sort of JavaScript protection and they don't want people to be able to read their source code I've found. Or else it's a pr0n site trying to keep you from taking the images.

And while we're at it guys, here's one for resetting your browser window to your preferred size if any site ever screws it up for you:

Code:
javascript:void(window.resizeTo(950,835))
Again, pop it in your bookmarks bar.
(set the numbers to whatever your preference)

I don't see how that would work. Disabling remote links would work a lot better.

Just go there and set the ones you want. I have a left and right-side broswer for the viewing size I prefer on my PB17 and a full screen one. Easy to do and free. Just select the one you want and add it your menu bar.

In Tiger, simply use Safari and choose to email link to someone or email the entire page, links and all.

I think I usually see it when browsing porn. That, or other shady areas of the intarweb.

I just open up the Activity window in Safari. It lists each page's files, images, etc, including the file sizes. Then just double-click one to open it in a new window, from where it can be saved.

All the Mozilla-based browsers have a similar window, listing and allowing direct opening of all the "assets" of a page.

How often does one need this though. In my 10 years on the web it probably happened to me twice.

You can also drag links to Safari's Downloads window to grab stuff.

Trust me, it discourages enough of the casual leechers who would just right-click and get the image link. Plus, not everyone knows how to disable remote hot-linking, or does not have access to enable it.

apple + shift + 4 and you have a wonderful png on your desktop. I'm either too smart, too lazy or too dumb to bother doing much more

Sorry, but I don't think "smart" is the right choice. A screen capture is not a replacement for accessing the original image.

If you find more right click disabled sites, send a nasty email to the owner and curse them out!
