We spend so much of our lives staring at some sort of screen. Between television, the internet, crackberry, and mobile phones, it doesn't surprise me that some people are now diagnosed as being addicted to media and in China they have rehabilitation centres for this.

How long can you go without looking at a screen? I usually get antsy when I haven't seen any TV or internet after 3-4 days, and then after 2 weeks I adjust and have no need to look at blogs or ads or tv shows.

Do you mean how long would I be comfortable not having a glowing LCD screen shoved in my face, or how long would it be practical?

I like looking at women.

Women are all over TV.

Women are all over the internet.

I look at screens often.

Women in RL are pretty nice to look at, too.

But unfortunately, you can't press command+w to make them disappear if they're ugly...

And for most MacNNers, in RL you go to jail if you try to touch one.

Back to the original question... How long can I go without staring at a screen? Forever, basically, if I set my mind to it. Iron will power and all that.
But like Maury, I like looking at pics of chicks. Oh, and annoying you lot.

Was that taken at Enchanted Rock?

On topic... I spent a week in Montana in July without access to a television, and access only once, for 15 minutes, to the internet in a library. It honestly took longer for me to adjust back to watching TV, then it did to adjust to not having it. I missed being online every second I was away from my computer, though.

Yup, that's enchanted rock circa 2003. We go to Fredericksburg every year as a "getaway". =)

Only on holidays. I use my computer screens for work so not seeing a screen means not seeing $$$.

i look at either a thinkpad or a viewsonic monitor all day at work interspersed with a palm tungsten or sony ericcson t637 phone. on the way to work or home from work or at lunch i look at a 40GB ipod. once i get home, i look at the phone or a 12" powerbook or sometimes the television.
so.
i look at screens almost constantly.

I could go as long as I want without looking at a computer screen, it just makes things inconvenient for us because things take longer to get status on..

TVs are a good excuse for being awake when you'd otherwise be sleeping too much.

But does you window have a screen on it?

I look at a computer/phone screen a lot less than I used to. I don't watch much TV at all, except on wednesday nights I go watch Alias/CSI at a friend's house.

I've been training for triathlons this year, so I've been outside a lot more than in past years. And I've tried to spend more time with my kids.

Enchanted rock!

Love the place!
