So, here is an article about a couple in the UK that have put up a £40,000 reward for their 15-year old dog.
Down here in Florida a friend of ours has lost her beloved French bulldog, Lucy, which you can read about at www.lostfrenchbulldog.com and for which there is a $1000 reward.
Here is a picture of our dog and if she was lost I would also put a $1000 no-questions-asked reward. I might offer $2000 if I was particularly heartbroken, though, on second thought.
What about any of you? What is your pet worth to you?
One other thing? MICROCHIP AND LICENSE YOUR PETS. That is the easiest way to help ensure that they come back to you. Mine also has a tag that states that she is microchipped and that there is a reward for her if she is lost and returned.

I'd likely pay up to $5K (or more) for the safe return of my cat, if he were "catnapped". But if he were actually lost (not stolen) I'm sure a $1K reward would be enough to catch notice.

i'd like to think most people wouldn't want the money if they found your pet

That's true, but having a large reward is incentive to have people keep an eye out for it and look for it.
I, for one, would insist that the person take the reward if my pet came back to me.

I'll pay someone $500 to take my cat and promise to take good care of him. I've just about had it with him, but if I give him to a shelter he'll be put down and I just can't do that.

Are you serious that you are going to PAY someone to take your cat?
Why?
What don't you like about him? Just wondering. I don't care for cats either. Too much hair all over, they piss on things, and they touch their crap with their paws then crawl on furniture and beds and countertops. Gives me the creeps. Like to look at them though, think they're smart, and if they belong to someone else they're okay. Just not in my own home.
(Please don't flame me for saying cat-negative things...I had a bad experience with them when I was small. My neighbor's cat had kittens in the dead of winter and I saw them and they were SO cute. Then they disappeared. My friend (the neighbor's son) told me that the cats had died. I was very sad. Spring came. The ice on the lakes was thawing. One day I was down at the lake on a willow tree branch that hung out over the water and I saw a burlap bag. Being a curious child, I fished it out of the lake with a branch and untied it and looked inside: It was full of dead kittens because the neighbor's father had drowned them. I never forgot that and now though I admire cats, I am always reminded of that memory. Thanks for listening, BTW; took me 30 years to get that out of my system.)

I have three cats. The cat in question is a very cute, very healthy, very affectionate grey tabby. I also own his brother, who is great. He has two main problems. Problem 1 is that he likes to pee on things. A lot. He pees on clothes and plastic bags. He pees all over the place. At least once a week I'll go to pick something up and find myself with a nice handful of wet pee. Fun stuff. Problem 2 is that he will not stop beating on our third cat. This poor cat is covered in scars and spends most of her time hiding under the bed. I cannot go one night without being awoken suddenly by the sounds of hissing and fighting. It's driving me nuts.
So in summation. I love this cat. He has been with me for 7 years and has a great personality. I also own his brother and I do not want to split them up. However, I have been told that if I give him to a shelter that there is a 95% chance that he'll get put down and I just can't do that.

They are all full. No one gets animals from the no-kill places because they would rather help an animal that is going to be killed.

The yellow pages for your city may contain an org that takes in unwanted pets, and they do not destroy them but rather find homes for them. Usually they ask for a small donation in return.
edit: beat me to it.

If your pet matters that much to you, how does it get away in the first place, is what I want to know!?
I LOVE my cat, but I wouldn't offer more than a $50 reward if she somehow got away from me. After all, I got her for free... and I can get more where that came from.
But, I guess after growing up in the country, and having as many as 26 cats at one point, it's a lot easier to see them come and go.

I wouldn't think about paying someone who found my animal. That said, I know that my cat will never run away. If you give your animal a good home it won't run. If my cat disappears one day than I will know that he's gone to die since cats run away when they're about to die. And I stay with a happy memory.
I could understand that you have a reward ready for the finder of your prize animal but then again I would never in my life pay for a cat. You can get them for free everywhere (same goes for dogs).

Got 5 cats. Zero chance of losing them because their territory is well away from, well, anything. But I'd pay the earth to get any of them back (except Squeaky - whoever stole her would end up paying me to have her back as she's the nastiest cat on the planet).

Hey Cody,
Can I buy that dog in your signature off of you? I'm thinking, maybe if I tamed it, I wouldn't be so scared of it...
How much do you want for your dog in your signature?

I guess I am responding to myself... I was getting so lonely in this thread, clicking refresh every 15 seconds, hoping for a response... *sigh*
I think Cody hates me... if Cody Dawg is her real name, which I kind of doubt...
5c? Cups are a little too shallow for my tastes, but thank you for asking.

I don't sell dogs, sorry.
If you want a dog why don't you adopt one? Go down to the animal shelter nearest you and adopt one.
Better yet, ort888 has a cat that needs a home.

I like to know the name of the person I'm buying a dog from. You can never be too careful about counterfeit internet dog selling operations out there.... I don't want to be a part of this racket.
An alias name would have been fine, take "besson3c" for instance, an old nickname I was given in high school. I was just wondering if Cody Dawg was an alias, because it almost sounds like it could be her name, although Cody is usually a boy's name.

I'm not Todd Short, I'm besson3c.
Let me tell you guys a little something: anything you see on the internet can be bought. I'm always sending people my credit card number trying to buy things that I see on the internet. One time, I tried to buy MacNN off of this guy who called himself "Ca$h", but he couldn't take my credit card. Get with it MacNN, this is the 21st century!
So, the point of this lesson: if you see something you like, buy it or somebody else will... It is incredibly naive to think that people don't want your money.
I'm not going to ask again: how much do you want for your special sauce?

I'd be willing to put up what ever it costs to go down and get another pet from the pound.
ZERO.
Damn critter can't stay home, then fine. What happened to those animals that walked half way across the country to their owners new home.

Do you have any bottles for sale? How much do you charge for shipping and handling, Ms. Dawg (if that's your real name)? I'd like to try some of this Grey Goose you speak of.
Oh yeah, and how much for the signature dog again?

I love dogs, but they're far filthier than cats. BTW, cats don't touch their crap in the litter box if the litter box is clean. If you watch them, they pull litter over the crap without touching it. I've never had a cat that stepped in it's own crap.
And I had a corgi that shed more than any cat I've owned.

are you a vodka snob? i saw a tv show a few weeks back about all these vodka drinkers who swore by the vodka they drank and that all other vodkas suck. then they did blind taste tests and most of them didn't like their so called favorites and even liked some of the cheapest vodkas out there.

There's nothing wrong with stepping in your own crap. It helps show people around you that you own your crap in a very unabashed way.
