Look at the pic by Steve Franz... is this in good taste or bad?

I thought I could get away w/o explaining. Should people be taking happy snaps while others are suffering? Happy snaps that come at the end of a hard day of photographing those victims... I have no problem with what he is doing, but for it to be documented and posted just doesn't feel right.

I don't see the problem. Our lives shouldn't stop with every tragedy. Should we be affected? Yes. Should we do something to help (in whatever way we can) those in need? Yes. But to not be able to smile or laugh about other things would be ridiculous. Now if he was pointing and laughing at victims of the flood or raising a toast while he was outside in all the debris, may be a different story.

Ummm. Most of those "happy snaps" were taken and uploaded BEFORE Katrina hit Louisiana. As for the Steve Franz picture, he's just as entitled as anyone else to be glad he's not still IN a hurricane-did you read the text that goes with the picture?

Life goes on, and there's nothing wrong with enjoying it. Do you want disclaimers that say how upset the people are about the storm's devastation? I'm really torn up by it, as are many of my friends who have lived along the Gulf Coast much of their lives. That doesn't mean I'm not going to keep going to school, mowing the grass, and generally keep living. It just means that I have more to think about and maybe a lot more to do.

Sure but a lot of people have the tendency to go overboard when things like this happen. It's nothing personal Sure it's a disaster but not the entire world needs be in tears and stop living their lives etc. for this. Cjrivera's post describes perfectly what I want to say.
Just like that thread in the PL about Europe not helping with the floods, pure whining (and a bit of good ol' right wing Europe bashing).

But I wasn't asking for the world to stop, I am just curious if it is in good taste to share photos like this while the disaster is on going? I hope the people helping do get a bit of rest here and there, but do the general public need to be part of it right now?

Why not ? It gets people's mind on something else. It does away the "holy crap apocalyps, poor people" feeling. The world isn't ending. Why shouldn't the general public be a part of it ? It's something then else than just the standard news images. If you catch my drift.

And I wasn't ripping on your question, absolut78, nor trying to be snide in my reply. Sorry if it came across that way.

Well, I was just wondering if he spends his life wandering around over-empathising and being miserable like a good Lib Dem (or like Morrisey or something) because let's face it, poop happens every day somewhere in the World.
