I searched, but couldn't find anything about this being posted before.

www.fedexfurniture.com

Some dude who was broke and made his apartment's furniture from fedex boxes.... then he got a lot of press, today show, all sorts of stuff. Then the DMCA laws allowed fedex to try to take his domain name since it involves the word 'fedex', and a bunch of other crap. He was even offered $16,000 for the domain name.... which he turned DOWN.

Personally, I think that's kinda crazy. You're broke... you make furniture in a creative way, you get attention, and someone offers you 16 grand for doing.... NOTHING!? Yeah, I'd have taken the money. Here's some pics:

Incredibly enough, his blog is rather interesting. Lots of fairly amusing things to read about his '15 seconds of fame', and some rather cool links, including this dude who made furniture from Apple boxes! I knew you guys might like that one:

This dude also went kinda nuts and started making non functional 'art' pieces... like.... uh... this:

Anyway, I just thought this was cool and I'd never seen it before. Hope you enjoy.

Seriously, that's cool.

Heard about this a few days ago, but didn't see the pics before. cool stuff

I also think he should've taken the money for that domain. $16,000 will last a lot longer than the few days people will still be interested in his pictures. (well, depending on what he does with it)

Saw this on boingboing a couple of days ago.
Very cool. Shame he overplayed his deck. Should have taken the loot and gone to IKEA.

I'd be more impressed if it was built out of toothpicks.

Accepting payment could lead to accusations of cybersquatting. He was wise to get legal counsel instead.

Well, he could have done both. Make them sign a waiver that would bind them to refrain from any charges of cybersquatting and such. Good legal counsel would have made that deal bullet-proof.

Not really. If you look at the box he has a nice egg-crate matrix to support the weight be distrbuting it. If you jumped and landed on it with one foot, yeah, it'd break, but if you layed down on it carefully it could probably support quite a bit of weight.

As a part of most art students class load they take a 3D design class. In it's third year students have to design and build a cardboard chair.

One of my best friends is a Fine Art major and you could jump backwards into his chair and it would hold together. Cardboard can be a LOT stronger than you think it can be.

I built a two person boat out of cardboard and white glue for physics class. It worked quite well.

Me too.

Except ours was with clear packing tape, and we had to use wooden paddles.

Me too, except we used cinder blocks and used dental floss. Luckily, the A-Team arrived and we added some rocketlaunchers made of bamboo and a flame thrower!
