What's the Most Enjoyable Serious Film You Find HILARIOUS?
I know FIGHT CLUB is meant as a dark comedy. When I first saw it I was mesmerized by it's darkness and violence but I watch it now and laugh til I cry. It is so funny. GREAT FILM!
What's your favorite serious movie that you think is really (ENJOYABLY) funny?
No stinkers here!

Do you really like this film and find it humorous? Or do you just think it is bad or schlock and laugh at it because it's so inane?
We are looking for GOOD films that you find funny even though they aren't really supposed to be a rib tickler.
Yeah, I don't think this thread will be a long one.

Titanic was supposed to be a drama/love story but the acting and dialogue was so sappy and awful I thought it was more of a comedy. Transporter was supposed to be an action flick but it was so utterly ridiculous and over the top I thought it was more of a comedy. Turbulence 3: Twisted Metal was supposed to be a thriller/action movie/goth/rock movie but it was so cheap and B-quality it was more of a comedy.

Those are good examples of laughable films. I'm more interested in films you LIKED that werern't supposed to find funny but wound up laughing at. You enjoyed it but found it funny when it wasn't supposed to be.
For example. If the climax scene of FIGHT CLUB when Marla is escorted to see the main character in the high rise, I LOVED the scene and it isn't really funny but it made me laugh til I cried. The improbability of what had just happened before she arrived and her reaction to it, was NOT funny. Yet, it was so dry that the humor comes through, I think, ONLY after you've seen it several times.
It is a great film and MANY of the scenes are funny like this to me NOW. But when I watched the film the first two dozen or so times it was more that I was in awe of the movie and the telling of the story.

That reminds me of one day in church when the organist was softly playing behind the Pastor's sermon and it sounded like the music from a Saturday Night creature feature horror flick and though the service was serious and moving, I could BARELY contain my laughter. It was sooooooo funny I had to leave the building sooner than anyone else in order to keep from making a spectacle of myself.

But i still like the movie

Dude, Ghostbusters wasn't supposed to be serious.
"Are you, Alice, menstruating right now?"
"What's THAT got to do with it?"
"Back off man — I'm a scientist."
"Tell him about the twinkie."
"...What about he twinkie?"

Behind Enemy lines was supposed to be pretty serious/actiony but near the end when the action just gets completely crazy and over the top... I laughed a lot...
Uhh... other than that, I hate movies. I cried when I saw the CGI in Spiderman 2... my friend beside me said he couldn't tell between the actors and CGI... I was shocked.

They think before they shoot. Pure comedy.

Religion is an insult to human dignity. With or without it, you'd have good people doing good things and evil people doing bad things, but for good people to do bad things, it takes religion - Steven Weinberg.

I always laugh when watching Zombie movies. Well, most are supposed to be funny but I don't think DOTD (2004) was meant to be funny, at least not like the original.
Sin City
I laughed for the same reasons as above - extreme, unrealistic violence always makes me laugh.

I would not say the scenes that made me laugh weren't supposed to be funny, but these films were not comedy in the first line, I guess.

i'd go with American Psycho and Sexy Beast - both bizarrely funny.
Also Ichi the Killer in a similar vain to what badidea said about extreme, unrealistic violence.

Obviously Ghostbusters is just a comedy. I threw that in cause I just watched it again, and laughed the whole way through.
"I'm glad you're feeling better. You still look very pale though."
The Natural is a serious movie with good comedy in it. I thought thats what we were talking about. Not movies that are so bad they make you laugh. The example was Fight Club. A dark comedy, but more dark than comedy, maybe. The Natural is a Drama, but has lots of funny lines in it. Robert Redford knows how deliver a funny line, just like Clint Eastwood. Very serious movies, serious charachters, more than a couple funny lines.

Spider-man 2 was golden. You cried at the CGI? Yeesh. Instead of being a CGI snob, you should've just sat there, soaked it in, and enjoyed the 2nd best comic book movie EVAR (now right behind Batman Begins)!
Name one movie where the CGI is 100% lifelike.

I appreciate the man's work. The wild, animal Swayze of Roadhouse. The sensitive Swayze of Ghost. Or that Dirty Dancing bad-apple my father forbids me to see.

Yeah i don't know but at the end i couldn't help but just laugh. Everything went from crazy to insane. It's definitely one of my favourite movies though.

I don't see how it's "CGI snobbery" to expect a movie's hero not to look like a crappy Bryce drawing. It's no different than if they had the Lizard be a guy in a costume and you could see the zipper running down his chest the whole time. If it's not convincing, it's not convincing.
Besides that, Spider-Man 2 was better than Spider-Man, but that's not saying a whole lot. They were both dumb and had scenery-chewing cardboard villains. And Mary Jane — how unlikable can a love interest be? The second-best comic book movie is called X-Men.

I couldn't tell the difference between CGI and robots in Jurassic Park. Other movies that used CGI very effectively include Lord of the Rings, Gladiator and Terminator 2 (yes, that movie knew its limitations and worked within them).

Laughed out loud at some bits of 2 and 3 in the cinema. Don't think the geeks were too pleased with me.
