BERLIN, Germany (Reuters) -- Chances looked slim that consumers will be spared a DVD format war, as the backers of one standard said on Friday there was no common ground for a unified format and it was on track for a market launch within a year.
Read further down, I dont like the idea of the BluRay players being internet connected to report back to the companies. I really don't like that idea at all. I current have no phone line and what if I didn't want internet, will I not be able to buy one? And marketing reasons will they record what movies we watch too? All the attempts to secure things is pointless because people will get past it. If it adds to the price then forget it, stop punishing honest people.

Eitherway 50GB Disc's, cant wait until we can get blanks to use for saving data
Brian says (9:16 AM): I was looking at houses in Ottawa... I actually have a temptation in me to move
Jeff ******* says (9:19 AM): Eww, Ottawa is gross. It's infested with politicians, and presently, 1 Harper as well.

It ain't going to be cheap.

PS3: Blu-Ray drive $100 per console (and that's mass-production cost)

Either Blu-Ray Player or Blu-Ray media cd will be very very expensive.

I am sure the PS3 will be cheaper than a stand alone player so everyone will just get a PS3 to save money.

Also, 50GB is just on one side, they can make double sided disks that are 100GB.

I didn't know about the connecting to the interweb... what're they going to do for people who only have dial up? Granted I have broadband and don't care, but it's suck to have to dial up just to watch a movie... and then you couldn't talk on the phone and watch a movie... frick the people behind these standards are annoying. Oh well, I'll stick to DVD

So if everyone sticks to the DVD format we have now, they will be forced to sell us nothing, or that, right?
I don't feel like upgrading, updating or anything else to watch movies.

Me neither, fact is DVDs provide high enough quality for now... and I'd much sooner wait for this to all sort itself out.
