Paul McCartney's song "A Fine Line" is pretty decent, but WTF, the song has been out for barely a month now and I'm already hearing it on car commercials.
What is up with this guy, why is he so lame? Is he still reeling over MJ, who "stole" his catalogue of songs?
Bring back John Lennon.

Looking for a new teen idol to worship? One whose feet AREN'T made of clay? One who will ALWAYS be true?
Kerrigan, here's your new Tiger Beat heart throb! You can call him "Billy." And, YES, he's a bit of a BAD BOY!
But isn't he DREAMY!!???
PERSONAL NOTE TO THE WALRUS: We're SO sorry, Uncle Albert, we're so sorry if Kerrigan caused you any pain. But the kettle's on the boil and Kerrigan's so easily torn away...

Worse than that, one morning, only a short time after one of those commercials was on, I saw an elderly lady-she could easily have been 103 years old, but still independent-driving an STS or whatever the model with the cool LED tail lights and really fancy styling is. It shocked me. I know a lot of older people like Caddies because of their exceptionally smooth ride and very nice interiors, but this car was being marketed as a high performance car for young people-Yuppies for lack of a better, more current term. I didn't know whether to think "Granny's pretty darn cool," or "What was the salesman thinking?"
I haven't heard any McCartney stuff on TV commercials, but then I don't watch much TV.

McCartney is very, very wealthy - he became the richest English rock star some time ago, and he topped $1B in 2001. So I would say he isn't selling out, technically. Perhaps he just wants another one of his creations to pervade pop culture again. And whom does it harm if McCartney chooses to do so? The fact that you were perturbed enough to start a thread about it makes me think you're more than a tad jealous, Kerrigan.

Rich don't make him less of a sellout. By definition, yes, but we are not sticking to the strict definition are we?
I think he wrote the song for the commercial... ack.

The concept of "selling out" is a fallacy. Musicians sell their work to make a profit, period. Ascribing some false notion of artistic purity to them is your bag, not theirs.
If slapping his song in a commercial makes McCartney a "sellout", well, then you better not read up on his history, dating back to the first contracts he and the Beatles signed with Epstein and EMI. You'll probably want to burn all those CDs.
Oh, and sorry to rain on your parade, but John Lennon was no pauper singing on a street corner either. He was effing rich as hell and reveled in it (check out his Rolls ). His widow has done more "selling out" than The Beatles, Stones and Zep combined.

Don't get us started on Yoko-oh-no...
She busted up the Beatles. (What a bitch)
Actually, Ringo sold out more than any of them... I mean come on, he had his art work on a credit card...

I can't fault anyone who managed to marry-and stay married to-Barbara Bach. And wasn't the credit card thing part of a charity issue? That's what sticks in my mind about it.

Ohhhh right Barbara Bach. That dude must either be hung like a horse or very funny.
Yeah, that credit card thing may have been for charity, now that you mention it.
Never mind.

At least the 3 surviving members sold the song on their own terms; they own full publishing rights to their back catalog, and all 3 have to approve the use.
Hell, if it keeps John Paul Jones recording new albums and touring, bring it ON!

I won't tolerate Ringo dissing. His music may not shake the world, but he's consistently productive, relatively humble and has done more to sustain the emotional core of the Beatles than anyone. His performance of "Photograph" at The Concert for George was the single most honest and heartfelt moment of that show.
