Oh, that's hilarious. I would have LOVED to see them in a magazine.

Great, and probably very efficient, ads; but probably also very risky. I could see Dell suing over something like that—not the benchmarks, which, of course, are just numbers, but the slanderous tone.
Incidentally, apart from these particular adds, why is it you never see Sun ads anywhere? It's like Sun barely exist—in this part of the world, anyway. I barely even know what they make!

Slanderous "tone"? First of all, in print its called libel. Secondly, there is no way to slander or libel someone with tone alone. Slander or libel applies to maliciously false statements. If the contents of those ads are factual, there's no claim.

Most likely because you're not their target customer. Sun's customers tend to be corporations, mostly mid-size and up corporations.

I love Sun's marketing and branding. Solaris is such a cool name for an OS and SunSparc is a damn fine processor name. The list goes on. Their logo is pretty darn cool design as well
A company like Weyland-Yutani Corp. would surely be run on a backbone of Sun servers. (Yes well, the evil guys are known for good taste)
cheers

Aliens and Terminator (1 & 2) do have the same director (James Cameron).
I have never heard there was a connection between Cyberdine and Weyland-Yutani Corp. other than James Cameron - and then not in a direct way because Ridley Scott created Weyland-Yutani.
cheers

'Defamatory' was actually the word I was looking for, but yes, slanderous was off, however you look at it. (Lucky I have the ultimate excuse of not being a native speaker of the English, HAH! )
I don't claim to know a thing about American libel laws, but there is no factual proof that 'Dell sucks' or that 'there is a reason Dell rhymes with Hell' [paraphrased], that's just pure finger-pointing, based on the fact that Sun machines were proved to do better than Dell machines in these benchmark tests.
In this part of the world, at least, that would be considered defamation of character, and while it would not be enough to give Dell a gazillion Dollars, it would definitely be enough for the courts to order Sun to withdraw the ads.
