In the three months I've been driving truck, I've been in 22 states, and tonight I pulled in a rest area in Iowa, to spend the night, and the sign says, "Free Wireless access." I pulled out my new iBook, and Airport detected the signal automatically, and in seconds I was on! Apparently, they have this at all their rest areas. When you first launch Safari, it takes you to the Iowa DOT page, where you create a name and password, and you're on!

Yup; we rule.

I had free WiFi access when stopping at rest areas when I drove through Ontario a few years ago.

There's a city near me that offers free WiFi to all of it's residents. Well, free as in you pay taxes and you get "free" WiFi access.

I also had free WiFi access in the hospital when my daughter was born a couple years ago.

State of Michigan has added wifi to all its harbors and a good portion of campgrounds have them now, with the rest of the campgrounds by the end of 2006. It isn't free, but they have daily and monthly plans.

Last time I was in PA, a couple of months ago, I didn't have my iBook. Next time I'm there, I'll check it out.
