Bees:

>They don't invade countries for oil

>They enjoy their work and don't complain

>They have respect for their queen

>Not a single bee has ever pirated software

Should bees serve as a moral authority over mankind? Should we observe their ways to learn how to act, and should we allow our children to be brought up by bees?

And they only attack when provoked or their territory is threatened. So they don't just kill indiscriminately.

I wouldn't mind being a worker bee. It sorta suits my personality anyway.

We wouldn't have crazy rituals like rubbing ourselves up against the Queen Bee or getting our heads bitten off, would we?

(See, here I am already being a bad bee; complaining about the requirements to be a bee and not just being able to enjoy my bee-ness.)
One should never stop striving for clarity of thought and precision of expression.
I would prefer my humanity sullied with the tarnish of science rather than the gloss of religion.

Correction: they only attack when they FEEL THREATENED. Bees will attack anything within their (invisible to anyone but bees) borders just because they're there.

Bees are not more moral than people; they cannot be moral, as they cannot make decisions. They are 100% programmed, hardwired from the very begining to do just exactly what they do. People have choices, and it is their choices that determine whether or not they are moral or ethical.

No, because bees are smart enough not to believe in morality. ;-)
Is it not reasonable to anticipate that our understanding of the human mind would be aided greatly by knowing the purpose for which it was designed?

Did you not see the sign at the door when you entered this thread? The one that says, in big green letters: “Please leave any logical argumentation, reasoning, and/or serious conversation at the door”?

Logic? I was venting pure emotion there! I'm surprised nobody slipped in the greasy pool of bile I vented!

Being a female bee suks, I think. That is unless you are the Queen. The original post reminds me of the Napolean/Cleopatra syndrome of people who say they recall past lives where they were either one of the rulers.

In your reverie open some of that imagination to consider life for the drones and the worker bees, the lives of the average male and female bee. The desire to bring order to society along rigid and predictable lines of behavior reminds you of what group's modus operandi?
Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

Ummm...

Yellowjackets = Bees

As for Morals of Bees, I don't doubt that if they were established in the same social situation, they would have similar problems. They would be raiding other hives... even when there was probably honey enough in their own.

Dude, I see bee pirate software all the time. Clearly you're not watching them closely. They may look all happy and sane, but they're all just one step away from becoming 'killer' bees.

I may very well be parading my abyssmal knowledge of all things biological (heaven knows it is abyssmal!), but I was always sort of under the impression that the Queen is the only female bee. Did I get something mixed up there?

Yes, the workers are female but infertile.

I don't think that a creature which only wears black and yellow (stripes no less!!) has moral authority over anyone.
