Regardless of what you or (I) think they certainly shaped the pc world.

I have to say in a stoke of genius Bill Gates did not sell PC Dos but licensed it to IBM, that started everything. To make things even more interesting he licensed something he did not own yet.

They have successfully copied and out marketed a number of larger competitors (at that time they were larger).
