It can run homebrew, it can run Linux, it had a network adapter. I don't play it much anymore, but it's still a damn good machine. Ever run Soul Calibur with a VGA adapter? It looks GORGEOUS.

What are some good games/homebrews/add-ons to get?

Oh the memories. I purchased, or actually had prepaid for one and picked it up on launch day 9/9/99.
It's still my favorite system of all time. It's to bad all the Sony fanboys killed it.

I'll never forget playing online games way back when on it. (And on my Saturn and Genesis before that)
You can play movies on it. I always had fun with House of the Dead 2. All the Sega 2K sports titles were awesome, and Virtua Tennis is like the best game ever!

Here are a few more of the top of my head.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Powerstone 1/2, Dead or Alive, MDK, Rayman 2, Sonic Adventure, PSO, Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue 1/2, Ecco the Dolphin, Jetset Radio, Seaman, and Crazy Taxi just to name a few!

I still have my DC hooked up and play it once in awhile. I love SF Rush 2049 (soon to be out in Midway Classics 3 for all current systems), Hydro Thunder and Shenmue. I played Shenmue for days straight - what a great game that was and I've never done that with another game. I never got anything fancy for it save the VGA adapter which made the games look AWESOME!

i loved my dreamcast. i had to sell it to fund a moving to another country, but it will always have a special place in my heart as my favorite console.

the games on it were awesome, the controller was great, and online play. i bought one into south africa and imported nfl2k1. saturday mornings were spent with me on dial up playing football against people in this country. amazingly enough it was smooth, smooth enough to have a good game.

dreamcast is, and will always be, great.

Seconded. Virtua Tennis is the best. Soul Caliber is a classic, and the 'skills' portion of 18 Wheeler is a hoot!

I wish Microsoft would copy the controller screen thingy for the xbox.

We're getting the light up glowy thing on the Dreamcast 360's controller.
Did any games really use that screen? I just remember a cheesy worm animation crawling around and don't remember using it with any other games.

nfl2k1 used it. you could see your play on the screen. it was cool for when you were playing 2 player. you could use that to choose your play.

virtua tennis had the best use of it. the entire game was on the vmu's screen. stick figures, but you could actually play the game on that little screen. that was awesome. a slap in the face if you are beating someone by playing them on the vmu.

Shemnue was overhyped and didn't live up to many people's expectations. It's a story that would have been better served in the form of a movie, not a videogame. It was an ambitious project, and at the time it was the only such project of its kind, but it was destined to fail. It wasn't a bad game, it just wasn't very good.

I also bought DC on 9/9/99 and payed the hefty $299 Cdn price tag for it. DC really tanked in Canada, retailers DID NOT want to support the system. Things eventually picked up a little, but this steam was short lived as soon as the PS2 arrived.

DC had some good games, but I bet you that almost every guy out there who bought a Saturn avoided the system like a plague, mainly out of principle. Don't feel bad for Sega though, Nintendo is next...

Some of my favourite DC games:
-RE: Code Veronica (sooooo many PS fanboys were pissed that this was a DC exclusive.)
-Skies of Arcadia
-Soul Calibur

Noah
Macbook 2.0 Ghz - Black
iPhone 4GB - Fido

I've always kicked myself in the ass for not buying a Dreamcast during the last week it was available. As I recall, the nation wide package include the console and four sports games for $49.99.

I just happened to have my Dreamcast out. It's still awesome. Playing ChuChu Rocket online was fun.

These are my games…

I just bought a Dreamcast last weekend, used, here in Japan. Rather cheap actually and really darn fun. Marvel vs Capcom is super fun. Just wish I could pick up more used games, my selection in town is a bit limited at the moment.

Maybe I can try bittorrent....

The odd thing about Dreamcasts here in Japan is that a lot of Dating Sim games were made for it. Rather odd ones. I totally don`t get it.

I got mine at FuncoLand (now EB Games) for $39.99 with two controllers, two games, and two VMUs.

(My DS gun I bought doesn`t work, so I need to return it. Oh well. Guess I`ll just get a couple of games instead)

Depends on what genre is your fav!

Definitely Soul Calibur, though - just to be impressed.

Jet Grind Radio is a lot of fun. Toy Commander was a pretty good one, too. It "kinda" reminds of Katamari - must be small character in a big world thing. Crazy Taxi, SF Rush, Daytona and HydroThunder are pretty cool and are almost identical as playing them at an arcade. Ready 2 Rumble is fun but I found if I couldn't play against a human, it got old real quick. And, of course, Shenmue!!

I'm sure there's also a load of Japanese release-only games you can get your mits on that we've never even heard about. And, last I knew, a couple of months ago companies in Japan were still making and releasing Dreamcast games, too!

So I've been buying a lot of games lately. I can't complain because most of them are under 500 yen (Less the $5 USD). The ones I have are Sega Rally, Marvel vs Capcom, Soul Calibur, Gundam Side Story, Chaos Field, Aero Dancing, Macross M3, Airforce DELTA, Resident Evil: Code Veronica (Really tough cuz its all in Japanese), Gundam Battle Online (which looks cool, but again sucks cuz everything is in complicated Japanese), Puyo Puyo Fever, Sonic Adventures, Crazy Taxi.

A couple of these games are only a year or so old, and were brand new when I bought them. Even though these are the Japanese versions most everything is in English, with the exception of Res Evil (Biohazard) and Gundam Online. Not a big loss, seeing as how they were in the 480 Yen rack. I've been trying to track down several games like Jet Grind Radio but I doubt I'll find it in my area. Though I am keeping an eye out for Chu Chu Rockets....

Dreamcast. How I love you. The best 5000 yen I ever spent.

Yes, bought a case from lik-sang.

Got an official SEGA blue controller too - the colours don't quite match though.

edit: Here's the page, but it seems they've got no stock left:

I have to pull out my VGA adapter and hook it up to my Dell 20" LCD. Don't know what I'm going to do for sound, though.
