What is the prevailing wisdom concerning setting off URLs in e-mail with braces?

I find that if I write: <http://www.someplace.domain/> in most e-mail clients, whether in plain text or rich (HTML) text mode, will correctly parse the URL and display it as a working, clickable link. But not always.

What's the best way to approach this? I know many modern e-mail clients can parse URLs without the braces. Should I stop putting them in?

I vote no. I used to do it all the time, but, depending upon the email client and URL length, it gets wrapped and unusable anyway -- not to mention that it clutters things up.

Don't do it. Put the plain, full link, and let the client do the work.

Also, those are angle brackets. These are braces: { }

Ah yes, you're right. Thank you.

Darn, looks like I have to unlearn a fairly ingrained habit.
And here I thought I was being sophisticated!
