So, a college football team painted the visitor's locker room pink. A bunch of people are now offended by this saying that it is demeaning to women and perpetuates offensive stereotypes about women and gays.

Can someone explain their reasoning to me? I can't see it as anything but funny and harmless, and I think the people complaining need to lighten up a bit. If this offends you, please try to explain why because I don't get it.

Yep. That's the same reason why I wear pink. I want to be demeaning to women and perpetuate offensive stereotypes about women and gays.

It's offensive for the same reason red ink is offensive in our public schools: people are farking idiots.

That is all.

This is just like the confederate flag problem: either you see it as offensive or you don't.

It has nothing to do with being an idiot, as a case can be made for either side.

PS. Seems more people are intolerant of flag burning than homophobia.
When you were young and your heart was an open book, you used to say "live and let live."
But if this ever changing world, in which we live in, makes you give in and cry, say "live and let die."

The idea is that pink is considered a soft image and "girlie", thereby muting a team's aggressive mindset. One of the reasons why so many sports teams use black and red as the primary colors.

Someone, with too much time of their hands, decided that this perpetuated a negative stereotype and whined about it.

Also, it's been done before by others schools.

Off-topic. The battle over the Confederate battle flag is silly. The battle flag was the flag for the Army of Northern Virginia, Lee's army. It never flew in Georgia or any Confederate capital or Confederate grouping except Lee's army.

Jut out of curiosity I did some research. It all points to you being wrong on this one. The "rebel" flag you see on dipsh1t's pickup trucks, is not the official flag of the C.S.A.- you seem to be right there. But the flag as we see it now seems to have been the Confederate Naval Jack.

Google it. Maybe I got bad info.

quite silly. If the visiting teams had been offended, then maybe there's a point. But really, it's just paint.

It's offensive as it clashes with Iowa's color scheme. I mean seriously girls.

Wait... when did gays start wearing pink? Well now I don't have to wonder if someone's gay when I see two guys kissing, if they're wearing pink I'll know they're gay, and if they're not, well I know that one just has something in their teeth and the other one hurt his fingers and is trying to help!

The battle flag was adopted by the Confederate navy in the latter parts of the war. The Georgia battle flag was close but different. The Confederate flag was called the Stars & Bars and resembles the US flag.

Painting it pink isn't offensive to women or gays. It's offensive to the visiting team as they are being told they are pansies (like women or gays).

If pink wasn't associated with women or gays, then why the hell is pink liked and used by so many women and gays? Sometimes stereotypes are true part of the time, you know.

Pink = Relaxing and not aggressive. It isn't calling them girls. It's an attempt to soften them up before the game.

If it wasn't a long running thing I could understand...

A good sign showing someone is a bit too over-sensitive or someone just LOOKING to be offended is when they get upset over something like this.

What is next? Red? You know the nazis used red!!111

Pretty soon we will only be able to used shades of grey as to not offend.

Another form of conservatism altogether. One not practiced by the right usually.

Of course they are! That's why they became stereotypes.

I think it is to call them girls, really. I still don't get what is offensive here. Is it the idea that women are the "weaker sex"? There is a ton of evidence that men are physically stronger and faster than women. That's pretty commonly accepted - they compete seperately in all athletic competitions because of this fact. Walk in to a women's clothing store and you will find a lot more pink than you will in a men's clothing store. So, pink is associated with women and women are less capable of performing at football. But, I think more than that, pink is the color associated with "girly" things - the side of women that is in contrast to men.

so, again, if anyone should be offended it would be visiting teams. If they'd put doilys, barbies, and tampon machines in there they'd really have a case.

Tampon machines would be hilarious. It would be worth all of the people complaining.

Actually, there were some prisons that were painted pink inside back in the late eighties, early nineties. While it seemed to have a calming effect on the prisonersk, I think it was determined that once they were away from the pink areas, they were more agressive afterwards. I think that killed the program.
