Ive got a Macintosh SE that has a 2mb drive in it, but still wont see a 1.44mb disk. It sees the 800k disks ive got, but i dont want to erase them for data storage. Im looking for stuff that is either blank or can be erased(givin it isnt a good program). Eh better yet, anyone got a SE/30 or SE FDHD they want to sell? Or any compact mac at that, im always wanting more of them.

And yes i know this should be in the marketplace, but i though it might get a better responce here. And i know i cant spell either.

The doohickey (I want to say photocell, but I don't recall) that senses the high-density hole is probably broken. Have you tried repairing it? Alternatively, you could tape over the hole in 1.44 disks and use them as 800s, provided that you thoroughly wipe them manually. (i.e. with a demagnetizer, not a computer)

Well the reason it wont use the 1.44mb drive is there are 3 rom chips that needed to be replaced also. As i dont have them i cant use them. Oh well. Ill appletalk it to a computer with a larger harddrive and working 1.44mb drive. This thing has been my ongoing project for about 6 years now. Finnaly found out how to make it take 4mb of ram and not just 2mb.

Oh, it's not an SE Superdrive? I had assumed the Superdrive was stock, not something you had hooked up to an older SE board. As for RAM, there's a resistor or jumper, like the Mac Plus has.

I have a couple of SEs floating around, but mainly I've been restoring an SE/30. Got it up to 128MB RAM and it has a 10bT ethernet card. Humorously, it needs a replacement floppy drive.

no it was a stock 800k. Ive added the superdrive into it along with 4mb of ram. Im not going to worrie much with it reading floppies since ive got a Classic II on the way. Ive got a Classic now, but the motherboard is damaged and it wont work with the extra Colour Classic motherboard ive got. Im trying to collect one of all the compact macs. Theres a mac shop in town that has had a SE/30 and SE FDHD setting around for a few months now, but he keeps saying they are a customers. Those poor things look like **** anyway.
