My roommate and his obnoxious friend, both PC users, insist on anoiniting Google as the greatest computer company around, that it will slay Microsoft, blah, blah, blah. Apparently Google is working on an internet browser that both of them say will totally eclipse IE and Firefox, etc. Furthermore they both agree that if Google ever made an OS that it would instantly and seamlessly be adopted into the majority of businesses and homes, etc. and that it would wipe the floor with Microsoft. I like Google, but I don't think that they are are great as my friends have built them up. Any opinions? Anyone love Google as much as they do...?

PS.. if Mac OS whatever ever becomes adopted by the majority of computer users, I maintain that it would take more than Google to bring it down

It will take a long, long time to bring down Microsoft.

I love Google too, but they seem much more interested in organizing data than browsers or operating systems. From google.com:

"Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."

So far they are sticking pretty close to it.

I reckon before they complete their mission, they'll have to petition the W3C for a new tag:

All that, and then you go and make a statement exactly like your friend's ... except replacing Google OS with MacOS

Right. I totally see everyone ditching a system they know, and have an installed base with, just because google makes an OS. It would take a while, and it would have to be good.

I agree that it is a much bigger threat to Microsoft then anything else.

This thread went from `interesting` to `lame` rather quickly.

There is no interest in the lounge, everything is passive here. We are all stale and neutral.
