Microsoft has ended talks with big 4 music corporations stating that the licensing fees they want now are way too high.

I mean, Microsoft usually enters a market with piles and piles of cash assuming a huge loss. They do it so they can kill off the competition and embed themselves in the market, then make up the loss later when they're the only solution and hike up all the prices and/or support costs.

Well, if the RIAA is demanding costs that even Microsoft says are too high... holy crap. That's just beyond greed, it approaches lunacy.

Hey RIAA, just a hint: If one of the richest companies in the world says you're charging too much, *whisper* it's too much! *whisper*

Inadvertently saves iTunes??? I didn't know iTunes (iTMS to be exact) was dying?

Looks like they inadvertently saved Napster if you ask me... as they were going for a subscription based service.

Not if all the music lables pull out of iTunes Music Store. This should be a hint to the RIAA that they want too much money and, hopefully, Apple will be able to keep the $.99 song price.

Man, this is scary.

Microsoft... and Apple... on the same side in digital music?

What's next, a RIAA overcharges website done by both companies?

Once you wanted revolution, now you're the institution, how's it feel to be the man?

iTunes and iPod are too big of a name for the companies to pull out. Way too much press. It`d be bad publicity to pull out.

If the RIAA snubs Apple, who will they go to? MS.

If MS is snubbing them too, they HAVE to negotiate price.

Good point. Well, I guess we have no option but to pirate their music.

Or in my case, rent it from my local store. Ahh... the joys that 100 Yen bring me. Sometimes less with a cupon.

I don't even have that option, since I don't find their music even worth pirating
