"The invitation sent out on Tuesday by Apple shows closed theater curtains with the words “One more thing…” written on top."
hmmmm. . . ipod video? itunes movie store?
but do you reall think there will be another ipod? they just released the nano a month ago. but spacing them by this much would stop one from stealing the other's news.
let the speculation begin.

iPod that can play video, and/or iTunes video store. The invite has a picture of red theatre curtains, so its something to do with films. If its an iPod, I hope its redesigned, with a bigger screen than the current 2" job.

Redesigning the powerbooks would be a stupid idea before sticking intel chips in them.

I've already sold my Dual 1.8GHz G4 in anticipation of new Power Macs, so there had damn well better be new Power Macs. I can't take OS 9 and a 604e for long.

It can't be Macs, unless they're already going Intel, and I seriously doubt that. It's got to be a new iPod, and if it's a new iPod, it's got to have something new like video, or it wouldn't be worth a special event.
They'll need need a video store to go with this, because otherwise there just isn't any (legal) content. But what's going to be on this video store? Feature-length films are too long, and studios probably aren't ready to sell them online anyway. Music videos would be the lamest thing in the world. What's left? News programs? Sitcoms? I just don't see it.

Would it be so bad to pay a small amount to watch a TV show? How much would you pay to watch an ep of BattleStar you missed last week? Would $1 be worth it to have it RIGHT NOW, as opposed to torrenting it? Maybe you`d pay $0.50 to download an old MASH ep. I don`t know, but I think the market for old TV shows would be big as long as your library of shows to pick from was big enough.

There are rumours here that there is (finally) the imminent arrival of the iTunes music store to Australia. I'm hoping!

viPod and an Apple Movie Store with just pixar movies at this point, with more to follow.
I don't see them using the iTunes moniker with movies as
a) it'd be stupid
b) iTMS was coined to circumvent Apple Records injuction on using the name Apple with a music related venture. This doesn't extend to movies.
Furthermore they can't use iMovie because we already have an iApp with this name.
I don't see new macs (I mean new form factors) until we get Intel Macs, unless thats what they want us to think OMG!!1!11!BBQ!!1eleventy billion!!1.

Did you get it? Congrats! Man you should have posted some pics. And you have 14 days to return it if anything comes out. Cross your fingers.

Also..this just in.. Steve will fight Steve (from Microsoft) online using Yahoo Instant Messenger. They will have a emoticon face off. Then they will call each other on Skype for a yelling match. I expect words such as "bastard" "scum" "whore-bag" and "asshat" to be fired off.

After reading the topic over at ARS, i'm inclined to think that we might see a set-top box, with airport express (for video) and a built in HD and optical drive.
A PVR/Media Centre type thingy-ma-bop, maybe even an Apple Movie Store to get your TV shows or movies or music videos from.
Or maybe not.

ShotgunEd, that sounds a lot like a slightly modified Mac mini to me.
Maybe the Airport AV or whatever plugs into the TV scart socket (like that SonyEricsson bluetooth TV dongle, to see your camphone pics on TV). That way any wireless mac would work, without a fancy TV card or port. Software could be a media centre front end, linked to the Movie Store. Oh yes, I like that idea, even if I did just think of it . If this was right though, it would kill the CenterStage and iTheater projects instantly.

Maybe an Airport Express with video capability?
If I could subscribe to live video feeds of the Daily Show and Mets games over the Internet, and feed them to my TV just like I feed Mets radio feeds from mlb.com to my AEx using AirFoil, then I just might cancel cable.

I'm guessing it will be something none of us really needs, but many will buy it anyway; and there will be 7-9 topics outlining the cons/nobody will buy and 5-7 topics outling the pros/waiting for shipping times.

I'm sure many people use their mac mini as a PVR.
It requires 3rd party hardware to facilitate this at present.
Apple could do a quick and easy PVR (using mac mini hardware) that would predate M$'s XBox 360 which will attempt to dominate the living room device market and even steal some of TiVo's market share.

I just realized something.
Apple moved their quarterly earnings report back a day for this event. Which means that it could be big enough that they couldn't disclose any details until after their report....
Apple is buying TiVo. You heard it here first.

You should feel lucky that Mr. Met does not anger easily, because he does not suffer fools gladly and, when moved to action, his wrath is harsh!
