Something's been bugging me re the Desperate Housewives TV show: You have two major characters, one named Bree and the other Gabrielle. But isn't Bree short for Gabrielle, so that we would have two characters on Wisteria Lane named Gabrielle. Surely not impossible, but a little confusing and a strange choice by the scriptwriters.

Bri (Bree) is short for Brianne. My girlfriend goes by Bri.

Otherwise I have no idea what you're talking about.

That would explain it rather satisfactorily, I guess. Or maybe Bree is a name all by itself. Or maybe her parents were really fond of French cheeses and so they named her Brie.

Bree can be a free standing name, or short for Breean, Brianna, Breea, Briarna, etc.
