Anyone know about the Circuit City advantage extended warranty plan? I bought a plan on my camera a few years back and was told that one can no longer just bring it back to the store and pick out a new one.
Do they actually repair the camera, send you a gift card or send a comparable unit? My 2 year old Sony camera is on the fritz and the CC employees are giving conflicting answers.

It you are still covered by the warranty-- if they are unable to fix it within two weeks they must replace it with a new one. If they no longer have your model then yes they'll offer you an updated version or something like it.

They`ll probably give you store credit of the original sum towards any new camera you want.

Ask to speak to a manager. Low level employes always need approval for anything like this so don't waist your time. And it helps to be a little pissed. But if you're warranty is up... don't hold your breath.

I purchased the circuit city advantage plan so even though it is out of manufacturers warranty, i am covered under the 3 year program. I'm just wondering how the logistics of that program work.

Why don't you ask a manager at Circuit City, or, better yet, read the warranty papers.

Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Just remember that CC is making lots of money off this program so it is your right to demand what's written on the contract. (Even so in the converse situation.)

The written material is intentionally filled with vague legalese and the managers refer you to the 800 number where the phone reps repeat that it is at their discretion to repair or replace the unit but never give real world examples.
I am looking for people on this board with real world experiences. Ideally, given my situation, I would like to see them send me a merchandise credit card so that I can pick out my ideal camera instead of being sent a replacement camera that I had no input on choosing.
