I used to watch this show when I was a kid, anyhow - This is an official Smurf movie that was made with the permission of the estate of the Smurf creator. I don't know exactly what their point is since everything is in Dutch (I speak a few languages but not Dutch), but I assume it's some anti-war knuckleheads trying to make some point about all war being bad.

Yea read this over at BoingBoing. I laughed my ass off when I saw that image. Why the smurfs? I'll tell you why. The original theme/idea for the smurfs was homosexual in nature. All male village and only one woman and nobody is tapin that ass, nor is she asking for it--lipstick lesbian. And they new that. This is just another way for those fanatic religious conservatives to get the kicks off. And destroy another popular gay symbol of gay unity. Subliminal message, think about it.......

Maybe the smurfs were all gay I don't know, but if this is an anti-war movie then it is liberals who are obviously behind this Smurf Genocide.

you're absolutely correct except if you ever seen the X-Files then you'd know that the GOVERNMENT doesn't have an issue about playing both sides when ever it's convenient for them. Remember they need to find an antidote for the black oil. This movie is just good old fashion racists entertainment to take their minds of the enslavement of the human race by alien overlords. And the only person that could actually save us, they don't even trust. His name? Fox Molder.

Apparently a fundraising clip for a new UNICEF campaign launched in Belgium according to UNICEF & CNN etc. (Smurfs UNICEF @ Google)

"BRUSSELS, Belgium The animated video shows birds, butterflies and happy Smurfs playing and singing their theme song. That's when the bombs start falling.

It's part of a UNICEF fund-raising campaign airing on T-V in Belgium. UNICEF is asking for donations to help children who'd been forced to be soldiers in Africa.
The bombs kill Smurfette, leaving baby Smurf crying next to a crater. Papa Smurf runs away as the houses in the Smurf village catch fire. The video ends with the message "don't let war destroy the children's world."
The campaign is aimed at shocking viewers into action. A UNICEF spokesman says "it's working."

You'll have to forgive me, I don't watch the X-files. That is probably why I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

I still think it's a silly movie though. What does children soldiers in Africa have to do with being carpet bombed by airplanes ? I haven't seen the full clip but do the planes have any markings on them ? Do they look like F-16's or something ?

I just saw the clip and I know my Mac aint that slow. Those Dutch people need to get some better frame rates for their television broadcasts !

That was like 1 frame every 3 seconds WTF ! The audio was fine, so it's not like anything was skipping.

Belgian. But anyway it is supposedly not the tv station crew who screwed up the encoding but the folks who provided the clip to crooks and liars.

I have most of the QT codecs on this machine, but all I could see of that clip was the first 1 second of it, just some newscaster dude. Does the full thing work on your Mac ?

Yes, it stopped after the first seconds but a page refresh later the entire clip played relatively smoothly here. This one appears to have the entire Smurfs episode.

Ok, good.

As for the clip, I tried a refresh and I still couldn't get the full thing to work and I did a quick Google but all I found was the same bad framerate slideshow version on another site and some Smurf Porn, so I'll just see it eventually when I come across some other link that works.

Oh yeah, I'm sure it's possible to find it if somebody is willing to look around for a few minutes.
A lot of the google links I found were to other forums where people were looking for the link also.

Just to un-twist some knickers: The commercial has nothing to do with being 'liberal' or 'conservative'. It is part of a fund raising campaign that collects money for the rehabilitation of children forced into becoming soldiers in Africa.

Not a cause anybody could really disagree with, regardless of their political orientation.
