i mean, seriously. it plays music and music videos (i can tolerate that), then it syncs contacts & photos (fine, it has to do with the iPod, which plays music), but the tv shows are pushing "iTunes" too far.

i am in now way denying the coolness of being able to legally dl tv shows or the implications this could have on the future of the tv/movie industry. but, the "album" is Lost, Season 2 & the tracks reflect what episode it is, ner

Agreed.

Apple rushed out iTunes with RSS capability and they rushed it out with video capability. Of all things, it is most obvious from the tagging options.

Am I the only one underwhelmed by today's announcement? Is anyone really going to watch video on a screen not much bigger than a postage stamp?
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

It's the same people who thought a DVD drive in a 2nd generation CRT imac was a good idea: complete effing idiots.

They won't. It's just useless marketing crap that Apple would have done well not to include, and they're only doing it now because people who know nothing of what they're talking about are clamoring for it because It's A Feature (tm).

People bought the original iPod because it did one thing and did it well. That's also why the iTunes music store flourished as it did, not to mention iPhoto, Keynote, and many other older (in whatever way the word 'old' applies to something like iTMS) Apple products. They understood then that Microsoft's monolithic App-That-Does-Everything approach is the wrong way to go, that it leads only to bloat and bugs at the expense of ease of use.

But it seems Apple is losing sight of those things. Not that this really surprises me: we can also see it with their inclusion of a multibutton mouse standard with the new iMac (no, it doesn't matter that the second button is off by default: developers will start requiring users to turn it on. Developers are just like that, and I know this as a developer who has fallen into that very trap on Windows).
