I purchased a used Volkswagen Passat this last weekend, and I am finding that it takes a three or four times to turn over the engine. I have a warranty on this car, and well, can have it looked at. But wanted to see if anyone knew what could be causing this. Then I can have a bit more to talk about with the dealer.
I also wonder if the timing is off becuase the engine was shaking a bit during the first twenty seconds.

Oxygen Sensor?
Crack in a vacuum hose?
It could be hundreds of things.

You could even try to switch to a lighter weight oil/

With my Toyota I need to choke it by pumping the gas pedal 4-5 times before it starts.
Apologies if this is either obvious or dumb or whatever. I am not a car person.

"'Jelly Hat' sounds silly," I told Prince. "How about something poetic, like 'Raspberry Beret.'"

Yeah, sounds like I need to take it in and have them plug the car's computer up to the digonostic machine.

If your Toyota has fuel injection that does nothing, besides gunning it once the car has started. If its an early model than nevermind.
A problem I have with my car is the temp sensor. Even in cold weather the radiator fan will run, not allowing the engine to warm up. It should warm right up to about halfway on the gauge.

Best idea, most likely its something easy, like a sensor or what have you.

I don't understand why it does it in the mornings (when its COLD) and not in the afternoons. And your right, its prob nothing. Prob a sensor or something, plus some. I get to fork out 90 bucks for a diagnostic... yippee!!!
