we're in our respective hurricane-able locations. looking and ready. cody is close too, but she's in her SUV. the heat is on. two broken dogs in the far back.

there's also a guy or two in the west coast that are cool, but they're not having their picture right how.

the guys in the picture won't get HIT hit but we'll be ready in case.

PS this is the hurricane thread now. No drama for you, or your mama. or Allah.

And here I was telling my brother not to worry and that it wouldn't redirect to FL. Hopefully the new hurricane shutters he installed will protect his new house.

Be safe Florida people.

nothing happening here yet.

I'm reporting from my remote location on the 14th floor, facing directly West with large picture windows that can see pretty far. In fact I can see most of Broward County from this spot. I should see some good transformer poppin' around the city.

My computer back at home is up off the floor and in the closet. The monitor is still out, but plastic-bagged, and sitting right under my window. I'm not so confident, but then again it's an aging ADC 17" ASD CRT. That's too much **** to say when talking about a monitor so if it gets wet it's time for a wide dell.

Oh, and things aren't looking good for my area. Besides being upped to a cat. 3 storm, it looks like it's shooting north of here, but the worst weather will be on the south side of the eye.

I'm doing all the things you'd expect me to do during a 'cane. It's a small party, but a party's a party.

What kind of reporting comes without visuals? We need pics, stat!

Doing a little work for 'Surveillance and Spy Innovations'. Long story.

Anyhow, I seem to have survived the hurricane. Thanks to the local government officials - who aren't liberal Democrats.

Your vote matters, folks. It can make the difference between life and death. or something.

Yes, we're currently starting to take a pummeling at 7:00 AM EST.

This year there are NO VEHICLES on our property so hopefully I'll still have a car to drive when this is all over.

I am ready for this one.

Here, you guys can watch it move across the state. I am at Jupiter Inlet which you can normally view via live cam here but I don't think it's going to be working today.

Last year Frances and Jeanne both came ashore through Jupiter Inlet (Frances right at Jupiter Inlet and Jeanne about 20 miles north) and what are the chances that Wilma would now come across the same exact location to exit?

Anyway, here you go:

Sleeping?

HA!

I have been up since about 4:30 AM. Had to make sure every bit of laundry was done, all the candles, flashlights, and radio are out and ready to go. Cell phones are charged. PowerBook is charged. Camera is charged. Took a shower and gave the dog a bath. Filled up the bathtub with water. Nothing is worse than being sweaty and the dog stinky when there is no air conditioning.

By the way, the air is chilling quickly outside. Last year when Frances and Jeanne came through it was like a convection oven. This year it's a lot cooler, thank goodness. Also, this year there are a lot more tornadoes.

I guess we're ready as ever for this thing.

One of two things will happen to us here:

1. Nothing

2. Something

Anyway, I'm not sure when we'll lose power but it's usually a certainty. If we don't I'll be stunned and astounded. We live in an area where our power lines are buried, but that doesn't mean much.

Yesterday the rats started running around. Yes, rats. And snakes. They always start scurrying and come out in broad daylight when a hurricane is coming. No one will ever convince me that rats and animals don't know what is going on.

Thanks for the link, Cubeoid.

Just heard a loud bang outside.

Hmmm...

Just set up the dial-up/dial-in modem for the PowerBook in case we lose power and have no DSL.

Apple is THE FINEST when it comes to setting up internet connex.

It's gnarly outside, now!

I'm still alive!

Clouds are moving faster than clouds have a right to move. Birds are lined up on the electrical wires - as if to say their final goodbyes to one another.

Even though south Tampa is surrounded on 3 sides by water - I'm assured that this area is 9 feet above sea level....and hasn't flooded since 1931. Which was the last time a hurricane passed through here.

What I'm seeing is nothing compared to what's happening south of here. Heck, my (omg, fiber) internet is still going strong.

Back to you, Cody.

Watch out for tornadoes, Spliff. I just heard that there was one up in your area - St. Petersburg way.

Yes, it's deteriorating rapidly here. The wind is now very strong continually. But, I still have power - VERY impressed that we still have power. We're on what they call a "hospital grid" because there is a medical center/trauma center about 2 miles away. Supposedly the power lines are in better condition/maintenance here and supposed to withstand more.

Anyway, maybe it will just blow through and that will be that. The storm is clipping along very fast so it's possible.

The eye is here.

The Big Bad Eye.

Anyway, all is calm. There is a lot of debris and trees down, a broken window, the fences are down, but other than that we are GREAT.

Now, for part II.

Yeah, sure, I'll post pix later. The storm is about to start back up again. I was thinking of freaking out my neighbors and getting out the lawn mower to mow the lawn in the eye of the hurricane.

This is BlueSky in California, reporting from in front of my Mitsubishi television, watching the hurricane Wilma reports...have it set to MSNBC and I am about to use the remote control to traverse over to CNN ...just a sec...OK, got it....now viewing CNN...oh wait, that's a commercial, I'll have to come back...I'll try the rarely viewed FOX Snooze and...oops, another commercial...OK, I AM GOING BACK TO MSNBC, CAN YOU HEAR ME?...MSNBC is reporting sustained winds of 110 MPH and is cautioning residents to not "jump the gun" when winds die down because the other half of the hurricane is coming...OK, over to CNN and Miles O'Brien is horizontally live on the scene and holding onto a lamp post while debris flies behind and around him, I worry for that guy...all I want to know is WHERE IS ANDERSON COOPER??? WE NEED THE COOPMAN, HE'S THE HURRICANE HE-MAN AND ONLY HE CAN GET THE NEWS THAT'S FIT TO VIEW...OK, going over to the window for a quick smoke, stand by...

I want to see you guys in the ubiquitous "weatherman nylon windbreaker" standing outside in wind and rain. "I AM STANDING HERE IN 90 MILES PER HOUR WIND!"

I thought it would be very funny to do a short video on a supposed weatherman who is reporting in the middle of terrible rain and wind a la Shepherd Smith in hurricane Katrina...

And right behind him, walking a dog, is a person just walking by with no wind, no rain, nothing, thus exposing the big weather lie that many news stations attempt to perpetrate upon us innocent viewers.

In other words, they attempt to dramatize the most minor of weather events. I wouldn't be surprised if Fox News had a wind fan and rain machine to make Shepherd look even more dramatic.

Yeah, we're trying to figure out how to get the lawn mower out and maybe take some video during the end of the hurricane.

Or maybe right after - when there is tons of debris down.

I'd love to videotape the expressions of people driving by our house while he mows the lawn RIGHT AFTER the hurricane.

For now, though, the wind is stronger this time around than it was during the first half of the storm.
