Nifty, I'd love to see them do this for FF6! If they did I would buy a DS.

Their cover art has got Kefka splashed across it. You'd think after eleven years that people would have the numbering convention down.
Have you seen me?

That's expecting a bit much ain't it?

Anyway, again, if they did this for FF6 and FF5... well who am I kidding even just for FF6, I would buy this in a heart beat. I don't know how much I'd want to play an RPG I've never played before but... yah... this would be sweet if done with FF6!

That cover looks terrible. American games always have crappy covers. Japanese covers kick ass.

Geez, did they just tell the artist the name of the game and not what it was actually about?

FFIII was the main focus of Square Enix's presentation today, but the company also made sure and provide some closure. Following the release of FFIV on the Game Boy Advance, the company will be brining V and VI to the system as well. As with the conversion of IV, the games will be updated for the conversion.
Personally, I don't like that they're coming to the DS. I tried playing FF I and II on the GBA and it made my eyes hurt. The DS and GBA are NOT good for RPGs. I'd rather play them on a GC.

At least as far as GBA games are concerned, I strongly suggest getting the Game Boy Player. I originally got one in anticipation of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, but it's proven very useful for many other games as well. I haven't had the eyestrain issues that you've had, but this should alleviate the eyestrain problems.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help with the DS. I wonder if a "DS Player" might be made available for the GameCube or Revolution, presumably with some kind of controller peripheral to deal with the touch screen? Barring that, what about some kind of TV display converter for the DS, as people are now making for the PSP?

FF6? Is that the one where the story grinds completely to a halt halfway into the game, after which you have to spend hours trudging randomly around on a boring, ugly, gray landscape until you finally have all your characters back so you can finally fight the obvious evil one-dimensional villain, who then turns out to be a complete pansy that goes down in like 3 or 4 turns because all your characters have become demigods by this point due to the game letting every character learn every single magic attack?

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!

Nice

FF6 was definitely better in the first half. What the second half lacked was a real purpose - the main goals seemed to be:

a) find friends
b) learn backstories
c) become uber powerful

And eventually

d) Defeat Kefka and win game

The second half would have been much better if the goal was directly related to Kefka. For example, getting Sabin back with Celes was fine because Kefka's light beam had just roasted that town.

I always wondered if they could make the first portion into an enjoyable movie.

One man's "one-dimensional" is another's "deliciously evil."

Most of the second half was optional: it's actually possible to take on Kefka as soon as you have the airship back. At that time, you have only four characters, so it's very difficult, but it's doable.

Bummer of an ending, man.

Oh come on, he was corny as hell. Complete with the MWA HA HA HA!!! evil laugh and everything. At that part where he poisoned that castle (and during the hand-wringing about it that seemed to go on for hours), I was thinking: Okay, okay, I GET it. He's EVIL. Could we move on to the next bit now?

See, I liked all that stuff. Of course, I can see why you wouldn't. Still, a little cheese is good. I also love Megatron and Cobra Commander, so I don't mind my villains over the top.

Yeah, Kefka was a little Vaudevillian, but I think those kinds of things can be fun. I think part of what I liked about Kefka was that he was simultaneously a comedic character and an evil mastermind.

And yeah, the World of Ruin could be tedious and end up way too easy if you choose to play that way. I enjoyed the backstories, and it wound up not being too long since I didn't just hang around, so it didn't feel tedious to me.

I've been replaying FF6 recently. I've found the whole game pretty easy — as long as I have Sabin in my party, I can defeat most bosses in like five turns — but I'm still enjoying it more than I have any of the more recent Final Fantasy games.

Over the top Villains are great. When they're just pure evil.
