I like the comparison between WMC and the 8TRAC.

That's a car AM/FM radio, not an 8-track. And WMC doesn't offer anything for AM because you don't get AM radio over cable, while in some markets you do get local FM stations that way.

Overall the best thing about WMC is that it's well integrated. Unfortunately for MS, it's not such a big deal that you can't do better with other software and "select it yourself" hardware. It sure looks pretty in the demos, but as the review says, keeping those recorded shows to watch on DVD is a royal pain.

Dude, 8TRAC is the bomb! At least until you forget about them in your car and they melt.

Windows Media Centers.... waste of time, money and resources. Remember the tablet PC ? this is their next big thing, and it is/going to flop just as bad as the tablet pc did.

Why ?

Simple....people arent going to want to invest into another complicated box(that costs a pretty penny as well) just to be able to do something that their home computer SHOULD be able to do. Enter 'Front Row'.

The bridge between PC - media center, isnt hardware, it's software. If Apple can pull it off so elegantly and cost effectively, the competition needs to be very very scared. the level of quality isnt of the highest possible, but is more than sufficient for majority of the televisions in use.

If anything, get an XB360 or PS3 for 'media centric' devices. But bear in mind...... hooking up your iPod to your TV via the Ir-dock acheivs the same functionality and you can carry it around in your pocket. Video quality is not be upto par, but that will gradually improve, as opposed to charging ppl for dual HD support when most dont even have one HD display.

Windows Media Centers are a joke....almost as funny as tablet PCs. Complicated, over prices and overhyped.

Cheers

IMHO, a $500 Mac mini with blue-ray (or whatever the standard will be) and front row seems like a nice little box for me. Especially if it's HD.
