The two Mars Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity were only expected to operate for 3 months. The data collected durnig those three months was to last planetary scientists YEARS of examining.
Well, now the rovers have been operating for 2 years. So here's a really big, but really cool panoramic view of Mars.

A friend of mine works for JPL, and their shifts are based on martian days, not earth days. Martian days are about 40 minutes longer. So every day you get to work 40 minutes later than the day before. At first it's no big deal, but after a few weeks you're getting to work in the middle of the night. Pretty cool...

I sure hope he is working on something related to Mars at JPL
I wonder if any public institution in the world contains a higher density of nerds than NASA.. it is cute.
PS. having a link to the picture would actually do this thread a favor. It is quite a challenge to *find* the reply box. (!)

I thought they came off 'Martian' days about 2 weeks after the rovers landed?
someone also NEEDS to get rid of the 3.5MB inlined gif, it locked up my Safari. NASA does supply smaller ones as well.

Great photo. It's amazing how much that flat surface beyond the dunes looks like an ocean...

That may be. It's been a little while since I've spoken with him.

Wow... reminds me way too much of certain parts of South Dakota. Except without the hicks.
Maybe there are hicks on Mars. `Get ya hands off me space daughter ya damn dirty Earth man!`
