Read here.

Was it intentional to make her look like a demon with those eyes?

You guys are the experts.

That's just a touch-up which I doubt was intentional.

I wanna know what happened to her retro-1952 hairstyle.

They didn't need to "touch up" her eyes. Why?

The original is perfectly fine.

They made her look like crap.

Honestly, it looks like a contrast & cleanup job gone horribly (and yet very amusingly) wrong. I suspect USA Today may have accidentally hired one of the Photoshop "experts" that Weekly World News uses. I mean, her hairline is also absurdly sharp in the "adjusted" pic, so it's not just her eyes that got goofy; they're just the most obvious.

Not that I MIND her looking like a demon, really....

Condi needs a hug?

You'd like to give her one?

A million men would, I guess. She's one of the smartest women on the planet and a lady too. Her piano talent is astounding. She's a great lady.

But they should've left her eyes alone. They made her look like she was visiting a voodoo parlor while down touring New Orleans.

Dear God, I just noticed it's from michelle malkin's site. Guess it's a real slow news day.

The question is, did someone manipulate this image so that it looks like she's NOT a demon? :

I once had a conversation with a photographer for my local newspaper. He said they are not allowed to do anything with Photoshop beyond color correction or whatever else is absolutely necessary to prepare a photo for print. Selective editing such as what's evident in this photo is not allowed. I don't care whether this photo was edited with malicious intent or simply in an attempt to "enhance" it. Editing in this way is dishonest.

From USA Today
Editor's note: The photo of Condoleezza Rice that originally accompanied this story was altered in a manner that did not meet USA TODAY's editorial standards. The photo has been replaced by a properly adjusted copy. Photos published online are routinely cropped for size and adjusted for brightness and sharpness to optimize their appearance. In this case, after sharpening the photo for clarity, the editor brightened a portion of Rice's face, giving her eyes an unnatural appearance. This resulted in a distortion of the original not in keeping with our editorial standards.
Link.

And, well, looking at the original photo, it's almost a choice between "demonically glowing eyes" or "X-Files black eye-worm look...."

Too much eyeshadow there, I think. Plus there's an odd area on the inside corner of her right eye that looks a bit off, as well. In the resized, cropped image her right eye is extremely indistinct, which is what I suspect the editor was trying to correct.

And she also has the "X-Files Black Eye-worm" look going on, there, too. What, was there a clearance sale on black sclera contact lenses that I missed out on?

Yes, I think that she is a very elegant lady. Demonizing is wrong.

I like the edited eyes better.

Clearer. Cleaner. Healthy. More alert. Like a sharp eyed Eagle. Piercing gaze.

Could she use a box of Visine and do this for real? I would.

Maybe they blew out her eyes on a different layer intending to place it over the original shot and then make it partially transparent. I do stuff like that all the time.

Maybe it got saved wrong because they were rushed or something.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

A great lady? She's corrupt just like most politicians (left and right). She has impressive credentials, but she is no moral authority. Would you really place her on a pedestal?

I would like to direct everyone's attention to this post where I explain what happened to Condi's eyes.

In short: I agree it was amateurish and unethical, but I don't see any evidence of malicious intent.

That's just some overzealous person who works at that paper that got a bit too "liberal" and they couldn't keep their dirty paws of their photoshop. I bet Michael Moore is the hero and inspiration to the person who perpetrated this fraud.
