I'm looking to upgrade my cell phone. I really like this model the Sony Ericsson w600a. It's not out yet, but I think Cingular is going to carry it. I have SPRINT.
Is there a way to use this phone with SPRINT???? Or do I have to switch providers?

Hmmm....I dont think it's likely. If I'm not mistaken, sprint has their own network set up. Spint phones do not use sim cards, like cingular,t-mo and others. The use of sim cards makes it easy to switch a phone to another crriers network.
But to, verify I would check HoFO

Thanks for the link. A GREAT resource. It looks like you're right about the Sprint and SIM cards. Bummer.

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA. Cingular uses GSM. GSM is arguably better for people who travel a lot because you can just swap out sims whever you go. In many parts of Europe, you can buy prepaid SIMs from the local Cell Phone companies and save a bunch of money over some stupid, ovepriced "Euro Plan" from the American cell companies.

But you still (in most cases) need to get the phone 'unlocked' as the carriers configure the phones they distribute such that they can only be used with their sim cards.

Yes. You have several options. You can take it to a cell phone dealer and pay them $40 to unlock it, or, you can buy software that will unlock the phone from your computer. You might be able to just download the software if you know where to look.
