I have put maybe 4 or 5 people on "ignore." After a few weeks I am able to remove them and I just ignore them from then on. So far, no one has STAYED on my ignore list.

I don't think I announce it to them, either. I just put them on it and forget about them.

Sometimes the person's comments show up in another's post but I am able to resist reading them in most instances. And when I'm not (because it is important to understand the thread) I resist responding to the ignored one. I just keep my comments to the subject, mostly.

There has never been more than one person on my ignore list at any one time.

There is one person on my list now.

How do YOU use "Ignore?"

And remember, no names, please.
Give petty people just a little bit of power and watch how they misuse it! You can't silence the self doubt, can you?

I haven't used it in quite a while, but I'm thinking about putting one individual on it. This individual thinks he of paramount importance to the world, posting frequent, long, posts, with many links to various articles, and snippets of articles which this individual thinks make this individual appear more intelligent.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

I've never used it.

No plans of using it.

If someone is annoying me then I don't read their posts.

Certain functions are pretty screwed up since the update. Double, triple, and quadruple posts have been common. Whatewver happened to the no posts within 30s rule?

Using ignore is the equivalent to "I'm a big pussy who can't deal with idiots on the internet."

Get over it, laugh it off.
"Altruism is killing America. We who want to save America must repudiate this killer, root and branch. We must understand and explain to others that the acceptance of altruism necessitates the violation of individual rights... and that the arguments for altruism are baseless..."

i don't have anyone on ignore, its just as easy to click another thread if someone is being an idiot.

I don't have anyone on my "ignore list". I just ignore the posters that are not interesting to me. The ignore list is IMO a flawed and rather pointless feature. We should have a more positive list, like a respect list.

I've touched the ignore feature and that won't change in the future.

The multiple posts are not related to the upgrade; they are as much caused by the traffic on other domains hosted on the same box as traffic on THIS domain.

Rickey, I don't know if you're right or not about the "sig violator." I called a member on this a while back and it turned out to be the way MY screen on MY computer worked-the word wrap on just about everybody else's computers made that member's sig significantly less than four lines... But I have to say it does LOOK like an excessive sig. Maybe the upgrade (did anyone else notice the different font?) made his/her sig no longer fit as it used to.

And KarlG, if I were you I wouldn't trust the the thing MOST people use for reasoning, so in the matter of putting that person you described on ignore, I'd follow my heart.

Five hundred character limit.

EDIT: But I think it may be time for a new one.

Standing invitation exists to talk it out in the P/L. Maybe you'll see the flaws in your thinking on this issue.

But wait til you see the next sig. Maybe it will save you some 'grief.'

I just have one person on my ignore list. Just did a search and found that he/she hasn't posted anything in the last 6 months anyway. Probably left because everyone ignored him/her.

A further search tells me that 13 of the 16 threads that were started by this user had, at most, one reply posting and that the remaining three, which had light postings, were locked.

Not anymore. I used to when I thought some individuals were just obtused. At some point, I found out that those obtuse individuals had something quite interesting to me sometimes.

i've never used it. i read the text and then usually have to go back and find who said them so most of the comments are anonymous-like to begin with.

Some threads could use an ignore, especially when it involves a massive three page derail/fight between 2 or three users (no need to name names), and it's nearly impossible to find posts about the actual topic anymore.

But otherwise I don't need it.

I don't have anyone on my ignore list.

The ignore list saves me a lot of time. You know that phrase "you just wasted 30 seconds of my life, I want it back"?. Well, that's what I'm trying to avoid here.

Plus: Never ever venture into the war/politics lounge. Ever.

And....the irony of it all:

There is no mention of a 500 character limit in the current sig rules. Check the notice at the top of every forum. Four lines (including blank lines) with no picture.

Ignore? I mean, what is this, China? I may dislike certain people, a lot. But to ignore them only lets them win.

Plus sometimes dumb people are rather amusing.
