Went to my local Apple store today to finally check out the Nano. My first impressions, were one of disbelief--it looked nothing like what Steve had in his had and the commercials also don't communicate just how small the Nano really is until you hold it in your hand . The size, thickness, screen, all of it made me feel like I stepped into an alternate universe where only there and in that place could something like this exists.
I knew that I had to have one. And at that moment that's when one of the clones walked up to me and began with the sales pitch, but not about the Nano, no he began to preach about the iPod + video and how the price on the 4 Gig was so close to the 30 Gig vPod that he considered it a waste to buy the Nano! I said " Can't you get into trouble speaking about the Nano they way that you are and saying its a waste of money?" He said " Well, not really. It's my personal opinion and what I think is the better product for the customer." The problem is is that he didn't even know who I was and we haven't yet talked about the type of iPod that I would need. And at that moment (I don't know what you would call what he was doing) he began to tell me that the Nano is intended/considered an iPod for women and that Men(!) prefer the video Pod.
WTF!
Disregarding his BULLSH*T--what this little f**ker is trying to do is manipulate me and play on the typical male insecurities with gender role(?) crap. I laugh in his face and said "Please, you're sales pitch needs work. The next time I come in here only talk to me about the tech specs and features and nothing else. Okay."
I knew this wasn't this young boys idea, no, he answers to management, who answer to corporate, who answer to Steve.
I've never experienced this kind of pushy tactics from any of Apple's employees in the past. There must be a lot ridding on this in order for them to be placing this much pressure on their employees to convince customers to purchase for the vPod out of any other in the iPod lineup.
This is not a good sign.

Dude. Nano= no moving parts= no failed hard drive like a normal ipod. I'd rather have a 2 gig nano than a 20 gig regular ipod. Or a 4 gig nano than ANY other ipod.

bad_quote, that's what I'm saying. How do you speak negatively about one of your own products that is f**king amazing like the Nano? To me and what I'll need it for it's the best iPod out of the bunch.
I'm an Apple User for life and I'll never use anything else. But for the n00b, who'll walk in there
thinking Apple employees will assist them in getting the best product for their needs, are sadly mistaken. I think I'm going to go back tomorrow and speak to a manager. We have to let them know that this is not the kind of Apple that we want. And if we the Mac faithful don't help Apple to correct these negative tactics then who will? It is use who took the word of teh Steve and turned it into the gospel.

That's the thing that really pissed me off about all this talk of scratches and lawsuits. The display model at the Apple store is scratched up to hell and it in no way diminished the users experience.

I've read stories about people trying to steal stuff by shoving it up their butts or vaginas. I wonder if somebody has tried to steal a Nano this way yet? You could easily shove one of those puppies up your butt. Nanos too.

I purchased an iPod, but it was made out of marshmallow! Two days after purchasing the thing, I got hungry and ate it by accident... NOW Apple is telling me that I can't re-download my songs!

I bought a 60 GB videoPod a couple of days back. No way the nano is anywhere near it in both build quality and usability. They look great, but feel really flimsy. Even the shuffle feels more solid.
IMO of course.

Maccentral did a review of all of the Ipod scratch removers, they didn't do much, some even made things worse.

You must be compensating for something if you feel you need the biggest iPod with the biggest capacity.
I would be quite secure with an iPod Nano myself.

Umm blech.
The music I already have on my iPod would fill 2 Nanos. I don't like leaving anything out, plus it either sits in my car or on top of my stereo...I'm sure it'll be fine.

My next iPod'll probably be the full blown one. They've got it down to the thickness of the mini and that's part of what'd really do it for me. The old ones felt too thick. I'll probably go for the 30 gigger. The 4 gig mini got over full real quick. That said I won't hit 30 gigs for years. So for me that's probably the best option. That said the nano is awesome and I'd love to have one of both

The iPod Video has decent audio recording specs. So once something like the iTalk comes out, enabling a microphone to be connected to the unit, that'll be the one that I get.

I have the 60GB for a number of reasons:
Backup for my entire music collection.
Portable HD and external drive for my digital camera
Video capability
Audio recording capability
I am joining a new gym this weekend and will probably get a shuffle for that.

The music I have would fill a 40 gig ipod...but again, all those things have hard drives. Hard drives use more power, and they have moving parts, which can fail. I'd rather have a nano purely because it has no moving parts.

Check out the cover of their recent CD, Revenge of the OC Supertones. Which in and of itself is actually a reference to Return/Revenge of the Jedi. They have another album called Supertones Strike Back.

They sound like Yet Another Alternative Rock Band. After a while, these groups all sound the same to me.
At least this band has horns, fake or not.

Salty, since I can't create new threads right now, allow me to ask you a question...
Youth group... I went to one a few times when I was a kid. To this day, I don't understand how and why things (like the Supertones, according to their front page) are targeted to the Christian youh/youth group crowd.
Do you really find this music inspirational like one might find Bach or something? To me, this sounds just like any non-Christian oriented rock band, except with some Christian-related lyrics. It also sounds like a way of making God "entertaining" and "hip", blending in with what is cool in mainstream/non-Christian culture.
Why does God have to be "cool" and "entertaining"? Are children uncomfortable with being different enough for these sorts of products to exist?
To me, this sort of thing is just like gee-whiz flashy Powerpoint slides. Not everything has to be entertaining. How can one have a serious and meaningful relationship with God if they need to be fed God the same way they are fed TV?

Uhh the Supertones started out as Third Wave Ska, now they're more Ska/Rock. Though now after like ten years, they're breaking up. That said why this sort of band? Why any band? The difference between a Christian band and another is that these ones have chosen different subject matter. Instead of singing about how many girls they've had sex with, or something like that they thing about in the case of the Supertones, fairly deep theological matters as well as life and what not. Their most recent album actually is stronger theologically than some text books I've read . Do they have inspirational lyrics? In some cases very much so. Songs like Wilderness, Shepherd is the Lamb, Louder than the Mob, Perfect Love, etc are actually extremely deep. They are by far my fave band because they're deep thinkers without being pretentious.
And does God have to be cool? No God is God, I'll let Him be who He wants to be. That said I refuse to condemn the way anyone worships Him so long as they are doing just that, ascribing worship. Worship need not always be a solemn a fair.
