I can't say that I like rap. I find it extremely annoying because of the 3 second sample that gets repeated for 4 minutes. Sounds like a broken record.

Terrible, just terrible.

For real rap (that is actually about something else than bling bling and bitc***) check out Immortal technique

Best song to get a feel of his stuff is on Revolutionary V.2 and is called "Point of no Return".

Goodie for you. You sound like a fu*king snob. As if underground tracks aren't played on the radio.

It's all HipHop. Because it stems from the HipHop culture. Wether or not it fits into the classification that you and your friends deemed, is irrelevant.

If you ain't never been to the ghetto,
Don't ever come to the ghetto,
Because you wouldn't understand the ghetto.

There is a reason why he said this and it's true. It's made for a people that are going through a reality in this life that can only be understood, received and appreciated by those in the same situation. It was never intended for people outside of these reality fields. If you enjoy it great. If you don't, no one gives a ****.

I'm still more into the type of hip hop that I used to pull tubes to in college... Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Digable Planets, 2pac, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Pharcyde

And more recent stuff too like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, People Under the Stairs, Jurassic 5, Hieroglyphics, Aesop Rock

See, now that's HipHop--old school but its the timeless isht. I love all aspects of HipHop. The gunk funk to the hardcore (**** that classification they call Gangster) Hardcore predates Gangster. Before E'z, it was the headbangers of NYC.

Don't forget GangStarr, Jeru, Poor Righteous Teachers, Brand Nubian, X-Clan, Disposable Heros of Hypocrisy, The Coup, Nas, MOP, Mobb Deep, Group Home, E Double, Keith Murry, RED <MOTHER ****ING> MAN! KRS 1, PE and the most overlooked group of all time UltraMagnetic MCs...... Now that's HipHop God Dammit!

Ratm, chill fella.

Sure. Cali and NY have some great stations that play really good hip hop. but ClearChannel/MTV type stuff is rarely good. (in my estimation)

MM-o4 - , nice tunes there.

effgee - , the new Blackalicious is jammin'

El Gato - , "the real hip hop"

I just got the new Murs album, haven't listened to it much, still have no power at my apt from the hurricane. 10 freakin' days now.

Anyone heard some Lady Sovereign? She's a teenaged brit-chick with elevated abilities.

I ask that Ratm go pull a tube.

BTW, for those that don't know, Rap & Hip-Hop are two different types of music.

Hip hop music is a style of popular music. It is composed of two main components: rapping (MC'ing) and DJing (audio mixing and scratching); along with breakdancing and graffiti (tagging), these are the four elements of hip hop, a cultural movement which began among African Americans in New York City in the early 1970s. The terms rap and rap music are often used to describe hip hop music; the terms rap music and hip hop music are generally synonymous, although rap music is usually not used to describe hip hop songs without vocals. Many hip hop heads, as participants of the culture are called, arbitrarily seperate the two terms by labeling the more commercial recordings as rap music, and the more underground-based recordings as hip hop music. Hip hop music is also erroneously used at times to describe related genres of music, such as contemporary R&B, which are primarily sung; while singing is present in several hip-hop songs, the main vocal is always rapped.

Yo, IceEnclosure I will look into Lady Sovereign. I like lots of the UK hip hop, Roots Manuva, Jehst, Braintax, Lewis Parker, Task Force.

It's crazy hereing you guys talk of live shows that you've seen. I live in Australia and we get some shows, but with one headliner not multiple.

Any of you guys heard any Oz hip hop?

Sure, here are some links to stuff online. The hip hop scene in Australia has been growing since the early 80's. I'm in Sydney and we have a strong scene going on.

Please be advised that we think rapping with a fake american accent is fcuked. So you may be taken back a bit with an aussie accent but also the recorded in your bedroom feel. No money in our scene but all luv.

This one is from a magazine called 'Stealth' put together by a mate of mine. Every issue comes with a CD. I did a track with my best mate (13th Son) for an issue. Check the track called '13th Son and Macross Matrix - A Walk in the Park'. I'm the second rapper.

http://www.stealthmag.com/board/viewthread.php?tid=349

Here is another track from 13th Son that will be out early next year.
www.myspace.com/earshotmusic

Sydney Uk label Invada has some good oz hip hop on it. Koolism and RU C.L. (he's half Jamanican so that explains his rap stylee) and beat maker katalyst.
http://www.invadarecords.com/Invada.php

Melbourne label obese has some serious talent. Have a look at Muphins 'heaps good' mp3 in his profile. Hyjack and Torchure is good, also Pegz.
http://www.obeserecords.com

Another who have been doing show in Canada I have been told and had some commercial air play here are Hilltop Hoods.
http://www.hilltophoods.com/html_version/audio.html

A list of locals, also a popular message board for Oz hip hop stuff.
http://www.ozhiphop.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=44958

And one more shameless plug for myself. This is old stuff (98), I need to get my ish together for new stuff.
http://www.mp3.com.au/artist.asp?id=4513

Hope that helps/shows you some good tunes. Anyone can email if your interested in more

@MM-o4, i'll have to give these a listen when i get home. And you all have my respect for not putting on a fake accent. inmo, that's what makes localalized hip hop great, the accents and the differences.

@Angelo78, handsome boy modelling school are awesome.
