2005 Civic hybrid I bought before the rush on hybrids. Gets 44 mpg in mixed driving and seems to be a great little car. I miss my WRX I traded in though...

At crucial points in the novel, a twitch occurs, and Jack assigns it significant importance. Later in the novel, Jack briefly espouses the belief that all life is "The Great Twitch".

99 3.2 TL (technically Honda), and a 04 Pilot. Both run great....

Although I just put $1400 on the TL today (needed a new engine mount in addition to a major service). First actual "repair" - and it better be the last for some time.

Just a bit sore since it has really low milege (44K) so the cost / mile to operate this car has gone up big time. But I guess the short distance actually puts more stress on the car in general (wife's commute is only 4 miles each way).

Great cars though (Honda's).

Oops - forgot - you may find what you're looking for at one of these places listed here:

That's a load of ****. While it might prevent the car from warming up fully, it would not cause motor mount problems. They goofed. Nobody is perfect.

You're right about the motor mount problem, but you forgot to mention the damage caused by not fully heating your engine fully during each drive.

If your engine does not reach a high enough temp often enough then humidity condenses and water collects in your oil. And we all know what water does to an engine. Simple solution, make sure you warm the engine fully during most of your drives.

4 mile commute? I'd probably ride a bike on all the days it wasn't snowing or raining.

re: iPod mounting for your Honda.

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/rev...w_grades/C158/

Has a list of reviewed iPod car mounting kits. They currently have reviewed 14 different units.

What iPod do you have? This info might help people recommend a good unit for use in your car.

Nredman and Railroader, I see you commenting, but I refuse to recognize what you're commenting about.

I've been a dedicated Honda owner since 1980. Yesterday I changed the front brake pads on my 2002 Civic LX Coupe, and aside from some sore muscles I'm quite happy; at 40k that's the only thing that has needed any real attention, though I'm looking at new tires around the first of the year.

My last two Honda cars needed exactly ONE lightbulb change: one of the panel lights on my wife's '92 Civic LX sedan went out. My '93 Hatchback never had a single light go out in nine years of service. We replaced CV joint boots on both of them more than once, but that's about it. Right now we have my Coupe and my wife's 2000 CR-V and we're looking at replacing that in the next couple of years with a new CR-V.

Didn't mean to mis-lead anyone. The short drive having more stress on your car is my "general" undertanding (which have since been advised on). That wasn't a 'reason' given by the mechanic for the bad engine mount. They just said it was leaking hydraulic fluids and needed to be replaced.

My wife has a '96 Civic, and while it has been faultless, I don't like it. Too low, minimal ground clearance, underpowered (odd neg comment from a long-time diesel owner), and I don't like the squirty throttle response off the line. I cannot take off smooth in this car. Uninspiring....but faultless.

In contrast, I drive a beat up '88 VW Fox w/ 300k, and it's fun fun fun. It's got piles of ground clearance, and though it has minimal power compared to current offerings, it loves to think it is a gravel rally car. (power of suggestion from myself). And again, other than a CV I need to replace, it too has been nearly perfect. I'm in Alberta, and for three months I cannot feel my toes. This car produces no heat whatsoever.

Good VWs are excellent cars.

From what I've seen they have many problems with interior bits and gizmos. My Sister's 01 Beetle (she long since sh!tcanned it for an 04 Civic Coupe) needed the gauges replaced twice and all the knobs for windows and power mirrors started breaking. All in all a good running car that fel apart to much.

My best friend Andy who lives in Chicago got an 03 Jetta. It runs a little ruff (don't they always?) but very tight car. The glove compartment broke, as well as the side mirror, and the chassis emits a baffling "sqeaking" that even the VeeDub people couldn't get right. A new catalytic converter didn't do the trick.

Oh and lately something is making smoke from under the car

20 minutes to change the pads, yes. Sore muscles from breaking loose the caliper retaining bolts, which hadn't been touched since 2002 when the car was built. I was reminded of the utility of penetrating oil, but I also had to "encourage" the bolts a bit to start moving. I think they torque then to 80 kazillion newtons or something.

The bolts will probably not be nearly as hard to start losening the next time I need to change pads, but that's a long time from now.

If you have a chance, buy Dow brand Moly-PeneLube.

Even the most stuck (and rusted) bolts will succumb to it's might.

I picked up an 04 Element in Dec.of last year. So far I've got 33k on it and not one thing wrong from the start. I do notice that new tires are gonna be needed for the coming winter. To say that Hondas suck is just being obnoxious for the sake of being so, or just ignorant of the facts about the product.

Im a loyal Nissan fan. Ive had 2 Datsuns and quite a few Nissans. Im in the process of fixing my 1989 Nissan 240SX for me to drive. My wife drives a 1980 Datsun 210 wagon right, but she will be in my 2001 Nissan Frontier once the 240SX is fixed.

I did own a 1986 Honda CRX for awile, but for $150 is wasnt much. I also have a 1986 Honda Elite 150D scooter as a back up for the summertime, but after 20k it has quit, i think it needs a new carb.

For Real, I don't mind people not liking Honda's...Hey everyone has different tastes. To say they suck though is just being ignorant. I live near Detroit and Know LOTS of people that will only buy what they feel is an American car and still Very few would ever knock a Honda. Most everyone knows that they build fantastic engines and very reliable cars.

I currently own a 03 Acccord EXV6 6MT coupe. I like it very much. The only issue I've had so far is rattling headliner and wrinkled door trim. All fixed under warranty.

My family also owns a 01 Accord EXV6 and my uncle recently bought a fully loaded 06 Oddessy. When we went car shopping, there was no other famiy van/suv that could compare to the Oddessy. Great job Honda!

My next car might be a Honda truck/SUV depending if I need a bigger car for my future business.

As I recall, but I'm pretty sure I would have had a lot of the same issues I have with the Si. I'm tired of the standard shift, and I want something a little more grown up.

About the only thing I would have liked better about the Neon is the 4 doors.

An "extender" did enter my mind, but since I did this on the cheap (in my garage with the car up on a fairly low (and single) jack stand), I wouldn't have had room. I need to learn more patience to let the oil do its thing, and to try to keep in mind what it is I've done LAST TIME so I can do it better NEXT time.

Turn your wheel so the caliper points outward. Then you can use any length pipe you wish.

And you need to learn that copper is soft and expensive. Nothing like having your extension bar bend on you suddenly, bruising or cutting your knuckles.

Steel is stronger, cheaper, and easier to find.

Stronger than steel? And for the torque that would be applied, I assure you, it is weak and could fail instantly.

I am a mechanic for a living. For the last 10 years. And not on cars. I work on multi-million dollar CNC equipment the size of a double-wide trailer.

Who are you going to trust with advice for using a wrench?
