Crazy, crazy, crazy.

He tries to crash Schwarzeneggers rally - with wife Annette Bening in tow - and can't get in.

"There's the main event, then there is the sideshow," Schwarzenegger said. "I don't care about the sideshow."
Beatty is a poor sad little man. Can't get an acting job or what? Is he still trying to drum up business with Halle Berry these days, too?

He got the publicity he wanted though, which surely was the point.

Actually he failed at what he wanted.

"Beatty planned to shadow Schwarzenegger throughout the day as the governor campaigned."

They p0wn3d him instead.

He is a pretentious blow hard. Like most of Hollywood.\

It made it on the news here in Canada. Why!!? What the heck does the politics of an American state have to do with Canada? Stupid. But, still, it was funny. Maybe that's why it made it

At the end of the news article:

"...extend the trial period for teaches to get tenure."

What does this mean?

Warren Beatty is all washed up. Finished.

He can't get any acting gigs. (Remember Ishtar? I know - I shudder when I think of it also - sorry to remind you.)

He can't direct.

He can't take rejection. That's why he'd never run for any office, political or otherwise.

He's a has-been except for the fact that he uses his celebrity to try to sway politics. Good thing he has Annette to support him and the kids.

Today, public school teachers in California only need to serve for two years before receiving tenure. The proposal on the ballot for Tuesday would extend that period to five years.

Tenure = guaranteed permanent employment (i.e., you can't be fired)

If you don't know what tenure is, chances are you don't enjoy similar benefits.

I was referring to the word "teaches". The rest I know. Maybe the "teaches" who "touht" the AP writers should have had a longer tenure?

Let's be fair here. Ishtar was years ago, and it co-starred Dustin Hoffman. Does it invalidate his career as well? Bugsy was a great movie, and Bullworth was not embarrassingly bad.

He's done some good things in his career.

Bonnie & Clyde, Shampoo, Reds. I thought Bulworth was entertaining though not a great movie.

He was originally offered the role of Bill in Kill Bill, but eventually turned it down because he was concerned it was too violent. So much for "can't get any acting gigs".

He's a B grade actor who thinks he has A grade clout. He's not a "has-been", because he never "was".

MacNStein, that's a great line:

He's not a "has-been" because he never "was."

I'll give you Bonnie & Clyde as being FAIR. But, the others...

NO WAY.

With actors and politicians it's all about them. Can't stand to be out of the lime light. They like the fans doing obcesence.

Actually, it's from "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand, but I think I remember it in that movie.

I think the phrase "a has-been that never was" predates Mighty Ducks...
"Everything's so clear to me now: I'm the keeper of the cheese and you're the lemon merchant. Get it? And he knows it.
That's why he's gonna kill us. So we got to beat it. Yeah. Before he let's loose the marmosets on us."

Whatever you can say about Warren Beatty is water off a duck's back. Because as much as it looks like he's grandstanding, at least his opinion that he's sharing is a good one: supporting schools, teachers, health care, etc, anti-corruption.

It's a shame that his detractors get glee targeting him instead of the issues.
When you were young and your heart was an open book, you used to say "live and let live."
But if this ever changing world, in which we live in, makes you give in and cry, say "live and let die."

Tenure is BS. Smells like UNION crap. Where is the incentive to perform to the best you can? Certainly NOT with a guarenteed job, even when you don't care and don't perform. Sounds downright socialist!

I agree that tenure sucks unless you're a published college prof that REALLY deserves it.

The idea of mere teachers getting tenure is just plain...weird.

Next thing you know students will be getting tenure.

I know teachers that worked hard to get their tenure. Then once they got it, acted like total asses and jerks.

Belittling and mentally abusing kids. etc

They can't get fired though. They have tenure.

No extra incentive. I am not pushing for Tenure. You either do your job right, or you are let go.

It's the same thing with unions. They all band together and use their numbers to blackmail companies and they can't get fired either even if they do a really crappy job.

I've decided that I'm 1.) Going to get tenure and 2.) Be a part of a union.

Even if I am self-employed.

I have actually put up a picket line in my own front yard, yes, a very nice barricade. On one side I carry a placard sign saying, "Down with the Dawg union!" and "Honk if you agree!" on the other. " I march back and forth for five minutes in full force chanting, "Do not cross this line." (Love it when the neighbors honk, too. )

Then I lay the sign on the ground and hop on the other side of the barricade and march around with my other sign that says, "Unions ruin a good neighborhood!" and "Honk if you agree!"

The best part is, of course, when I try to cross my own picket line.

(Somehow I think John Candy and/or Steve Martin could have fully given this idea legs, whatcha think? R.I.P. John, you big bruiser.)

Up in the northern Ohio valley the Unions there are always on strike. You drive up Rt 2 and you see them standing along the road.

Now, some of these people have legit gripes. Some do not.

But it would suck to be on strike most of the year. :/

Yes, Unions are what is ruining business in America.

How about a culture where people try to take advantage of one another and promote unfettered greed and malice rather than social responsibility, and defer to not wanting to help "lazy, selfish people" while not supporting community-based education and health programs that would assist people who are missing out on personal responsibility values getting instilled because class-based poverty, exploitation, and the lazy-selfish greed of many businesses?

Ironic that you mention Unions and "unfettered greed" in the same post.

At one time there was a need for them. Now, however, there simply isn't. They're just more economic dead weight.
