Question about using a Mac at UNC...

I have a friend who recently started attending grad school at the University of North Carolina. My friend is looking to purchase a new computer (their first such purpose) and I am advising them in this process. Obviously I would love them to get a Mac, but I am a PC tech by trade and know there is a place and purpose for each type of machine so I'm being open minded. I'm most interested in hearing if anyone can talk about their experience of using a Mac at UNC or if they know someone who has and how it went. I am open to any and all input on this. Many thanks in advance. (Sorry for the thread title as it was another attempt to get this posted).

Thanks all

I imagion its the same as using a Mac at any other big college. Which would be a good thing.

It also depends on what yur friend likes to do with computers and what their area of study is.
