Very well made movie, and possibly the best WWII movie ive seen (With the exception of Schindler's List).

It was very refreshing to watch a WWII movie that was not "Americanized". The movie making aspects were quite amazing. The acting, especially the guy who played Hitler, Bruno Ganz, were spot on. He did such a good job that, through the movie, it sometimes skipped my mind that it was just a movie.

As far as story....quite simple, Hitler's final days in the bunker in Berlin. Definately recommmend it to anyone who appreciates a "good" war movie. (good = Platoon, to me).

My only quibble are the subtitles which were friggon hard to read on a light/white scene. DO NOT watch a dubbed version. this movies immersiveness is greatly helped by the fact that it's all in German. In fact i think it's the first german movie where Hitler is portrayed.

Thoughts from those who have seen it ?

Cheers

From what I was able to see (5 min) I must say that I was impressed. I have the movie now for two months but never managed to find time to sit down and watch it completely. It is quite refreshing to see a movie about "the other side" and what played out.

There is another WWII movie I recomend (German made) called Stalingrad, filmed 1993. Also in German, showing what the Germans went through at Stalingrad.

I bought Der Untergang on DVD (2 disc special edition) a couple of months ago. Great movie, very fascinating and not to mention authentic! No problems with the subtitles on that version (Norwegian).

It is that and not Hollywood trash glorifying and sensationalising Amercian soilders.

Best movie about the Nazi era I ever saw. Honest, authentic, realistic (w/o Hollywood BS), credible - and as such, all the scarier.

Two thumbs and two big toes way up!
