Apparently lichens can live two full weeks (possibly longer) in a vacuum even when exposed to high temperature deviation and extreme ultraviolet radiation.

Why is that important? Well, it's the most complex organism(s) we know of that can "live" (well, they go dormant and stop all metabolic processes) in space. Could have similar organisms been on rocks or ice objects blasted from lightyears away, then hit Earth in its early development?

Those are some of the key questions for the history of our planet. How did organisms get on this planet in the first place? Well, it looks very possible that they came from somewhwere else!

Cool science!

Been inclined to wander... off the beaten track.

water bears (in the animal kingdom) can also live in space, can withstand freezing, boiling, drying out etc..
