Orginally from James AKA Troll

I did my research on Mac mini. I must tell you it's pathetic to say the least. Here is a real world comparison between two deals. PC is a much better deal. My wife will surely agree with me after seeing these figures. You guys have been busy accusing me of trolling, but LOOK AT THESE FIGURES. You have no legs to stand.

Mac mini - $499.00
1.25GHz PowerPC G4
512MB SDRAM
32MB DDR video memory
40GB Ultra ATA hard drive
Combo drive (DVD/CD-RW)
Optional AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth
Built-in 56k Internal Modem

------------------------------------------------

Barebone PC - $413.87 (From http://www.ascendtech.us/)
Celeron D310 2.13Ghz (much faster)
512MB DDR RAM
64MB video RAM (twice the mini)
40GB HD
3 PCI slots for far more expandability (no PCI for the mini)
3D stereo sound card (6 channel output!!)
DVD Combo drive
Windows XP Professional ($149 less the above price if you already own a copy or get a cheap OEM copy!)
Ok lets start with CPU, LIKE FREAKING HELL A CELERON AT ANY GHZ is better then a G4, speed is just one part of a CPU, how it handles data, its cache all factor in. This is why AMDs have been higher performers for most tasks then much higher speed P4 cpu's. Even Intel agrees with its Centrino CPU's. A Celeron is Garbage and I hope your wife reads the forums because you sir do not know what your talking about.

Second, Video Card, well what video card, is it built in ram or dedicated ram. Just saying its double the video means nothing. If its double the video memory but intergrated then its crap. Or as I see they have the option for a GeForce2MX with 64MB on the site again crap compared to the Mini's Video.

For the Audio lol I’ve had 5.1 sound in my PC for 5 years now, never used it once. Next computer im just not going to care. Also you can use USB Audio solutions for 5.1, 7.1, Digital http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Transit-main.html again not much of a point your making.

PCI Slots, go count how many PCI slots your laptops have. If you want PCI slots you get a tower, not a mini simple as that. One of the reasons to buy a Mac Mini is because its the cheapest Mac but more importantly its size and form factor.

Now your leaving out software. If you add Windows to your purchase its more then the Mini and the Mini comes with a OS, iLife suit and more so your just missing so many important facts or should I say hiding so many important facts from your wife. I really hope she is reading this, because she is a very unlucky woman to have a husband like you, who will twist, omit and lie to get your way. Its for her, let her enjoy what she wants and go buy a PC for yourself. I really do hope she comes on here her self, I would be more then happy to help and support her in her Mac needs.

Sorry Tooki (mods) I really had to reply to this post. Lock away.

No no, threads about other members are a big no-no. Talking about other members in threads that are not about other members per se is quite acceptable.

And WHY isn't their a line of folks trying to get one if it's so great? LOTS OF FOLKS and BUSINESSES are buying Mac Mini's for everything from training to font servers, to the newsroom at several local weekly papers.

Mini's don't require so much fiddling around with, to work reliably, don't need constant service packs or virus/spam/adware software additions, and already come with a far superior OS than Micro$oft has ever developed.

I guess there is a certain bliss in ignorance.

I did go to bed. For about three hours. Now I'm back up. Got THANGS to do today. Lots of things. Including first and foremost going to the bank, then to the store, etc.

How are you today?

Bet Cubeoid isn't doing much today...probably just lerking here at the forums.
