Wow, look at dad. He deserves his own chapter in "Why Good Women Choose Bad Men."

How is the mom a good woman? She isn't even taking care of the kid, she's leaving that to HER mom.... I feel bad for the guy. He made brownies, was stoked to go to a concert, and his kid got into his spoils. He probably didn't mean for that to happen at all.

Drug use? Imagine this exact same story only the kid had gotten into some wopatuli or frozen alcoholic daquiri stuff and gotten drunk before the dad dropped her off before going to a concert. 3 years in jail for something ultimately harmless is pretty stupid if you ask me.

I know a number of good parents who occasionally smoke a little pot. Hell, my grandmother occasionally smokes pot.

Some people can use drugs/alcohol responsibly, others can't. It's just like everything else in life.

Apparently I did the same thing as a young kid. My god-mother was babysitting and she made two batches of brownies, one for me and one for them. She put the theirs on top of the refrigerator and mine on the table. I guess I must have seen this and taken offense, because when she left the room I managed to move a chair, get on the counter, climb to the top of the fridge and eat a good portion of the "good" brownies. She said I slept for hours. I dont think she has told my mother to this day.

Actually I did something like it a couple years ago. I was at my mom/sisters place when they weren't home. I decided I wanted to give the cats catnip but couldn't find any in the usual spot. I turned the place upside down and finally found some stashed away on top of the fridge. I lead the cats into the living room and sprinkled it all over the living room floor carpet. Strangely non of the cats seemed interested.

I left shortly after.

That night my sister calls me and says "you know that catnip you put all over the floor... where did you find it?" I said ontop of the the fridge. She said "That was my stash".

The whole house stunk like hell but since I had a cold at the time I didn't smell a thing.

Luckily my sis thought it was funny.

Note: Cats don't seem to get high of pot.

I have to run to an appointment but I think the kid going to the hospital because he was HIGH, 5 years old, is pretty pathetic.

I'm probably the only one that thinks that, but I do.

Have a good one, all.

Well, me and the other usual suspects are some of the only ones with a problem with this... go figure. News flash people, teaching your kids that drugs are good to use now and again isn't a wise move. And frankly any parent that's willing to do this sort of crap doesn't deserve to have their kid.

What is it about drugs that makes them so bad?

I smoke pot occasionally. And I drink probably a little more than I should. But I think most people would agree that I'm generally a good person. And yet you seem to be claiming otherwise. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I don't see what it is that makes you more right than everyone else.

Weeeell, Jesus did turn water into wine at the wedding of Cana in Galilee (when the supply ran out).
Apparently, it was of pretty good quality also, dig:
the head waiter in John 2:10 said, “Every man sets out the good wine first, then after the guests have drunk freely, the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.”

Though, also note: Proverbs 20:1—“Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise”

MODERATION is the key here. Those that cannot drink alcohol without abusing it should abstain. One thing I don't understand, however, is certain Evangelical denominations that preach total abstinence, and that the consumption of any amount of alcohol is sinful. The church I got married in wouldn't allow ANY alcohol to be present at the reception.

Doesn't sound like it was on purpose Salty. Sometimes things happen because of accidents, or what you like to refer to as 'the lord works in mysteries ways' or something. So blame God. I doubt the guy fed her brownies, so who's left to blame? God.

Have fun with kids then.

"Just say NO" failed, what would your approach be? FUD?

My parents made it clear that the over-use of any drug was bad (including crappy food, my mother is quite the cook). But when they found my weed and pipe they gave it back to me...really, what could they do? Alienating your kids by making them think their impulses are evil won't work. If anything all this crusade against weed has done is make smoking more popular than ever.

Anyways, ingesting pot is just about the safest way to do any drug.

I certainly stopped leaving my goods in the pants my mom was going to wash....

I can do heroin, speed, coke, its all around me, I don't though. Even with my "lenient" parents and pot habit I find no need to move on to harder drugs.

I'm not saying let your 2 year old take bong hits, but its a tough situation...One that can only really be fixed based on the set of circumstances of each child. I was to smart for my parents to give me a bunch of crap about pot, I know they did it when they were young, so why not me?

Maybe some kids are more easily scared and kept away from drugs with simplistic reasons....but that doesn't work for everyone.

Yep, my parents did teach me that, and since I lost an Uncle to AIDs (from sharing infected needles) and my other uncle is a born-again-christian (after having years of cocaine and heroin abuse) I know all to well what "real" drugs can do to you.

Information is the best tool, not dis-information. What could my dad have said? Uhh when I was young me and my friends would smoke joints, drink wine, and listen to the Stones...it was awful and it ruined my life!

Puh-lease.

They all have their uses (although personally i won't do anything intravenously, that's just a line i won't cross) - a substance or inanimate object isn't inherently good or bad, it's just a tool. IMHO drugs are generally harmless when used responsibly - its only when people use them as a crutch or to block out emotions do addictions and dependancies tend to happen. Alcoholism isn't any better than a coke habit, just a little cheaper perhaps.

You can't eat all those hamburgers, you hear me you ridiculous man?
