Austin, Texas On November 13th, we will release a new version of Apple Discussions that includes a number of exciting new features.
One of the major features is the ability for customers to mark their post as a "question" and then later mark it as “answered,” if that’s the case. Other users will be able to see which threads contain answered questions, thus enabling them to find those more helpful posts easily.
Other new features include:
• A much improved search engine – search for numbers, do proximity searches and more.
• RSS feeds – track your favorite threads with Safari’s RSS reader.
• Subscription upgrades – new weekly subscription mails and the ability to subscribe to a user’s posts, in addition to subscribing to threads and forums.
• WYSIWG editor for posts – easily add bold and italics.
• Relative time zones - see posts in your local time.
As we transition to the new system, please note the following:
• User aliases will no longer be changeable. The new system will prompt new users for an alias, but existing aliases will be transferred to the new system. Please make sure that you like yours.
• User aliases must have a minimum of 2 characters and a maximum of 30 characters. Aliases that do not meet the requirements will not be transferred.
• Unfortunately, subscriptions will not be transferred. Please make a note of your subscriptions as you will have to reselect them in the new system.
• Bookmarks will not be available in the new system. We are looking at ways to provide these again in the future, but for now, please use your web browser’s bookmark feature to mark interesting subjects.
• You won’t be able to upload your own avatars (user icons) after the transition, but we hope to offer this feature in the near future.
Transition time: Beginning at 8 pm (PST) on November 11th, the current Discussions system (
http://discussions.info.apple.com) will go into "read-only" mode where users can read all existing posts, but not contribute anything new. On the afternoon of November 13th, we will turn on the new system. The new URL will be
http://discussions.apple.com. All current URLs will be redirected to the new location at that time.
We thank you for your support and appreciate your patience during the transition. This system update will allow us to continue to grow the fabulous community we have at Apple Discussions.
