I want to buy a light box to treat my SAD. But there is such a range of products out there, many of which are very expensive.

Can anyone recommend one? And does anyone know if the sales pitch for this light box is bullcrap?

Talking about SAD.. I read about it weeks ago on the SeattleTimes. I don't believe on those light boxes. Living in the Pacific NW, I feel sad constantly, especially without any sun shine.

Sorry man, but that little flashlight will make no difference. I've lived in Northern Europe and experienced some serious darkness and felt the SAD to a degree.

The light treatment is all about sunlight simulation. In all seriousness, check something like this out. http://www.greenhouses-etc.net/light...ight_index.htm

Use non UV type lamps and go. Enjoy the sunlight during the winter

(Granted I'm used to strong sun in my homeland and *can't live without it!*)

cheers

It's amazing what they call "Disorders" these days…
"Altruism is killing America. We who want to save America must repudiate this killer, root and branch. We must understand and explain to others that the acceptance of altruism necessitates the violation of individual rights... and that the arguments for altruism are baseless..."

Then a light box might help.

It's amazing that some people think they know more than medical professionals, and that without sunlight we don't exist. If you don't have it, then it isn't real, right.
Why is there always money for war, but none for education?

Medical Professionals…you mean the mental health professionals? The same guys who commit suicide at an alarming rate?

It's not a matter of knowing more than them. They are calling a common and normal reaction to lower light levels a "syndrome" and offering or suggesting "treatment".

When I go outside in the summer I get very thirsty and a clear discharge all over my body, especially in my armpits and crotch. Maybe I have Severe Water Excretion And Thirst Syndrome. Perhaps Dihydrogen Monoxide therapy will help. I just hope my condition won't affect my current treatment for SARS, ADHD, Monkey Pox, West Nile and Bird Flu.

You may have hyperhydrosis and hypernatremia. If either of these are causing you severe discomfort there are treatments available to alleviate your symptoms. Don't forget your lollipop at the nurse's station on your way out

I'll be working 3rd shift this Winter and will probably see VERY little sun as I will be sleeping when it is out.

SAD is very real. A friend who is from Northern Alaska said it seemed like the world was going to end every year. And in the Summer he said he went nearly crazy from lack of sleep in the Summer.
